Roberto Martinez discussion

But it soes. It means the manger is here until he desires the job no longer.

We're on the cusp of a very good side here. The GK frigs off and we get a decent replacement we are sorted. However, you dont want that, you just want the manager's blood.

That's about the size of it.

I want Howard gone as much as the next fan but I don't even think De Gea could save our defence. Compare how solid the back 4 of Spurs, Palace even Watford look like in comparison and it's night and day.

Martinez is a lovely fella and a great embassador, but he just can't organise a defence any better than what Pulis can go full throttle attacking football. He's massively costing us right now.

They'll only go if we dont have Martinez. They buy into this manager and will be gone in an instant if he leaves....which thankfully isn't happening., so everything's good. You know the drill mate: next game and a win and the moaners disappear.

Lukaku's agent doesn't. And Stones' agent will push for a transfer request again.

People are right that there is a deep problem.

The deep problem is that Martinez's core philosophy is totally incompatible with being a solid defensive team. That's the trade-off you buy into with Martinez as manager. It's not just his tactics, it's the mentality that slowly infuses into the players over time working with him. (Ever notice how very few of our players know how to tackle in a 50-50?)

But he needs really quickly to teach the players how to switch to a different way of playing mid-game. The worrying thing is that he has never acknowledged the problem. After the Newcastle game, he said we'd learned lessons from the previous games. But we patently hadn't, and the lessons seemed to be about how to fluke last minute winners.

At the end of the season, we'll have to decide whether the Martinez trade-off is a net benefit to us. At the moment, it's really in the balance for me. It's annoying to fail to challenge the top four when you have the squad to do it. It would set the club back years if we ever went down, and that's the real risk under Martinez compared with Moyes.

Always a knee jerk reaction after defeats but fully understandable in this instance. Can't legislate for the penalty decision, but in fairness to Clattenburg first time I saw it I said penalty also.

Things that he can be held accountable for are:

Tim Howard
Garth Barry 2 games in 2 days. Was excellent for 65mins today but legs went, Gibson and Besic sitting on the bench.
Kone getting a full 90 with Mirallas sitting on bench.
Naismith being brought on ahead of Besic,Gibson,Mirallas.Lennon.
Game management, when we went 3-2 up Seamus Coleman crossed a ball from the by line and Galloway collected on the other side. I'm all for full backs attacking but ridiculous really giving the way the game was going.

I like the man but really don't think he can bring us to the next level, hope I'm proved wrong.
Where Mirallas n Lennon even on the bench?

Definitely a top half team. Not downplaying what we have, I don't think we're Champions League material like some expect.
Probably not, only up front, we have a CL quality defense as well if played right.
I like to think Martinez has a tactical slider and last season went a little too defensive and we were terrible in attack, this season he slid it too far forwards, hopefully next season he'll get closer to the middle and we will see actually how good this team is.

Pochettino >>>>>>>> Martinez.

Change the friggin' record fafs.

Last week it was "beat newcastle" - until it became: "beat newcastle AND stoke..."

And so we got a last-gasp winner against newcastle - and then got beat by stoke. Marvellous. :(

You really should change your user name to @Jamtomorrow.

Just saw the goals. First one Stones is way out of position chasing someone into midfield, when there are players there. Second a ball over the top and Shaqiri scores a cracker - maybe Galloway could have been closer. Third, very poor palm out by Howard but Stoke player not marked and the last Stones should have stayed on his feet. If the manager was to be reactive to what I saw, Stones and Howard should be dropped. You can work on formation and defending as much as you want but basic mistakes are down to the players.
Shaqiri was lobbing it across the box....total fluke.....watch very closely
