Roberto Martinez discussion

MUMMY! Everton got beat. Wah! Let's fire our manager as someone must PAY for me feeling this way.

Patience you plums. Now isn't the time.

Of course now is not the time, and the Everton board won't do anything ever except if threatened seriously by relegation. The question is, do you think Roberto is the man to take us forward? We're all powerless aside from giving our opinion on that question. Those arguing about the answer to the question 'will Martinez get fired?' are wasting their time because he is never going to be.

Said last year that I would give him till this tranfer window in the hope he would learn a few things like how to shut up shop ,buy a keeper and at least look like we can defend a cross or ball through the middle , will stick with him till then , if he dosnt do something about it ,then he needs to go,not holding my breath but he needs to make some big and bold decisionions in the next few weeks

Have actually already said on this thread today mate, that Martinez gets the blame for today's game because he got it wrong big style, you know, when he get's it right I'll praise him, when he get's it wrong I'll [Poor language removed] him off.
Will you? Why on earth are you still on board with him? Was today a new experience for you?

Anyway you love the fume don't you, you like it when we get beat so you can sit back laugh all safe in the knowledge Martinez is here for years to come.

Well, when Swansea were playing like crap, they got rid of Monk. When Aston Villa, who are admittedly even worse than us, were playing like crap, they got rid of Sherwood. Even Chelsea got rid of Mourinho and van Gaal's job is in danger. And yet Martinez is still here?

I like Martinez. I want to, anyway. He seems like a genuinely good bloke and admittedly, I am not in the best of tempers right now as I have a nasty cold. But if getting rid of him will change us for the better, then great. Only problem is, theres no replacements I can think of.

I agree about Mori and have said it before. It's a legitimate criticism of Martinez' transfer policy (for the short term) this summer. I think Mori would be sound alongside Jagielka though, like Stones is. But of course, it had to be Jagielka to pick up a long term injury to add to the ones to Baines and Oviedo and leave us relying on kids.

But it was something that was pointed out when the summer window shut. He released 2 centre halves and brought 1 in.

He dropped on Galloway to fill in for Baines rather than looking at him to play there. And I'd find it hard to believe he expected Galloway to be 4th choice centre back.

He had to buy a straight up, solid, grock for a few million and he didn't.

Which has led to this.

Gutted with the result but what a game. Seems obvious to me that our defence is way below standard. Galloway is not ready yet, Mori is ok but not brilliant, Stones is beckenbaur on the ball and just a bit better than Bramble defensively, Coleman and Baines are great going forwards and average defenders. All but Galloway I would class as above average on the ball but we haven't got the whole package in any of them (yet) and priority has to be defence first. Out of all of them I would say only Mori is decent in the air. Gareth Barry cannot protect them well enough with lack of pace and he also struggles in the air. Jags though also not great in the air is a good reader and tackler so we need him back asap.

Still believe we need grocks at the back and if we were to sell Stones, Coleman, Baines for solid defenders who can just do simple passes onto the midfield then I would be happy enough with that. We are too cavalier in my eyes. The attack is excellent and we look like we will always score goals but not enough to counter the goals we concede.

I admire your optimism but we all knew that a couple of injuries would have seen us in this position. It really isn't an alien scenario. We had the opportunity to strengthen our back four and the manager didn't do enough to do that.

It's clear that we'd be in a better position now if we'd gone for a more experienced 3rd choice centre back, yes. The left back situation is just amazingly bad luck though. Our first two left backs have been injured all season but were set to be fit in August. We were absolutely right to send Garbutt out on loan as the odds were he'd struggle to get a game for the reserves, never mind the first team.
