Everton Transfer Thread 2016

It's not just a case of running. You have to see if a player is a) running to fight for the ball when your team is not in possession, b) running to create space or c) just running around a lot without any real purpose. Without analysing his game I'd imagine Ozil's more 'b' (and sometimes 'c') than 'a'.
I'd like to highlight the fact that you mention that you imagine the he is more B, rather than A and sometimes C. And that's my exact point...

Many people have a preformed perspective of Ozil, which is often created by his personal demeanour and the reputation he holds.

Yet in fact he does a lot more on the pitch than people actually realise, and I'll admit I was once one of those who unjustifiably criticised him.

To be fair though, you're right about him being more of a B than a A. However he does get stuck in to play much more now than in the past.

While his movement on and off the ball (aspect B) is a huge part of Arsenal's style now, often finding space which he utilises to great effect.

I see Rooney, after coming out in staunch defence of Van Gaal in the media this week, has been benched today. Doubt they're happy paying such a fortune every week for a player that's not even getting in their first team. If we were to move on Naismith, Mirallas and McGeady who knows...

*awaits tonnes of responses saying 'not this [Poor language removed] again'*

Mate we'd have to move on more than 3 to afford him

It's on mate, I don't know why, but it is.

I reckon we've got a bit spare lying around after we didn't really splash out in the summer and this would obviously be all down to him taking a huge pay cut. Either way it'll probably never happen but what with him playing in the testimonial and taking his lad to see us the other week you know he'd love to be back playing free flowing attacking football. The best he's looked all year was in the testimonial!

Well there are very strong rumours that Ossie is off to Hibs, Naismith is also being linked away with lower prem clubs. I don't think the prospect of losing those two players is remotely far fetched, and as it would leave us two players down, you would expect there to be at least some kind of replacement coming in whether it be on loan or permanent. Then you have Mirallas and McGeady, both of which will be heavily linked with moves away during the transfer window.

What can I say, Hooray especially re Osman.

Come on Everton give a January sales discount to help them on there way.

i have a feeling he would welcome a return but it would be down to money. I don't want the club to be paying over the odds for any player who is not happy elsewhere and the end of their career. but on the other side there is no doubt he would fit into our current team quite nicely for a couple of seasons.

This. Firstly he still only thirty, an England international and world name at a big club. Even though he's been dire recently there'll still be a fee.

And it won't be a small fee as Manure will want to get some money back to use against another striker which they'll need; that won't be cheap!

Then there's the wages which follows the same argument above. Currently he's on 300k per week at Manure which is nearly £16m per annum!

Apart from being an Evertonian, why on Earth would he take such a huge drop in wages so that he was even partly affordable for us?

Yes he's reaching the latter stages his career, yet I'm sure his advisors will be telling him he isn't in his twilight yet. There's still money to earn!

Then there's the whole aspect of what would be a reasonable amount to offer him when you consider how poor he's been recently.

£100k per week for him? Sorry, but no. £75k per week? Still I'm unsure. And what effect would would his arrival have on the rest of the squad?

He might still be able to be very effective if managed right, but the money it would cost just doesn't seem beneficial to the club for me.

He'll only be affordable in a few years when he's in the real twilight of his career and then there will be no point at all. Pipe dream...

I don't know if it's just because I'm not a scouser, but I've never really understood why there's so much nostalgia for Rooney among Evertonians. He only played in blue for two seasons, and seemed awfully happy to leave. Yeah, he's been a fantastic player in his career, but the vast majority of that career has been him enthusiastically scoring goals for a club we don't really like. What am I missing? Why is there so much more good feeling for him than any other ex-Everton player?

It's partly because he's much better than most other ex Everton players, partly because he's 'one of us' and partly the 'What might have been' syndrome.

Joined when he was 11 though. He's an evertonian. Went because of money but don't think he ever forgot his roots

Arguably could you not say the same about Jeffers? Maybe I'm playing the Devil's advocate, but I agree with @mlyons. It's a strange admiration.

I think @Jamo Martinez nails it perfectly on the head: he was once 'our' exceptional talent and deep down we hope or wish he had remained.

Maybe that's where the nostalgia comes from as he was undoubtedly the best player we had seen in the blue for a long time. I still think he is...

Also it's clear to see that he's mellowed in his older years, and maybe that's why these stories of his 'relationship to the club' are starting to arise.

However, it certainly didn't look or feel like that when he first left the club, with the Alan Ball testimonial match comes to mind straight away.

LVG will be bidding adieu in the next day or so after today's result, and Jose will roll into town before the weeks out....just in time for their match v Chelsea. What's that got to do with Everton?

Well, perhaps the Chosen One will be bidding again on a Stones plus his former protege Lukaku for his new paylords....and offering Rooney in part of the package. Not that far fetched in these strange football times IMHO.
