Roberto Martinez discussion

The thing with the style of play Martinez has incorporated is that when it works ( Chelsea this season, many times in 2013-14) it looks beautiful. We look like Barcelona- even without Messi and co. However, when it doesn't we look like a boring team with one plan.
Slightly unfair, last season yes
This season we vary our play and we often go longer and also play the renowned Unsworth diagonal ball

Is it wrong to suggest we could already have a replacement for Barry already in the squad by the name of Besic?

No, you're right. We should replace one of our best players this season with a tattooed biff whose positioning sense is right up there with Malaysian planes.

I think the bigger question is let whether Martinez should go or not, but rather who would we replace him with that is definitely an upgrade? So no Sherwood, Moyes, Hughes, Koeman, etc.

Koeman's not a bad manager all of a sudden either. Hard seasons happen, there's 20 teams all with roughly the same or more resources than we do. We're a good run away from top 5 and in a semi final, let's see what this chap does and review his position at the end of the season.

I rate the lad personally, and he's got a good 10 years on Barry anyway, and no one said it would have to be right now. It was mentioned earlier, and I reckon the lad will come good. Wasn't long ago people were moaning about Lukaku here there and everywhere. People forget a lot of these lads are in their early 20s.

Wasn't all plain sailing for him either..

Correct. But the great man said himself many times that it was his decision to replace Jim Arnold and take a risk on Neville southall that was the best managerial decision he ever made and what made a promising team a great team. For me it's been the same since January 2015 but Martinez won't make the decision for whatever reason.

(And I'm not comparing Robles with Southall)

4-4-2 seem the be the most effective formation in the league at the moment. Watford and Leicester for instance.

Some analysis showed teams that play two holding midfielders have struggled this season as teams are just playing around them and not through them.

Will Roberto ever try with out two holding players?
funny thing is even the 2 holding midfielders are being drawn out to join in the tippy tappy, so when they are needed they are never there. How many times do teams get straight into our back four

that word again

He has the potential to be a top draw player, but he will need to be given time and patience - good luck there

Amount of aimless Baines long balls to Lukaku's head on Saturday was astonishing. If you're going to incorporate those sort of balls into your game then do it properly with runners looking for Lukaku's flick ons. Don't pretend you're this possession team then aimlessly punt it whenever the pressure is on. It was a feature of last season that had thus far stayed out our game this season but last few games it's been creeping in with Baines Funes Mori and Howard punting directionless hoofs quite often. Maybe the change of left back from Galloway to Baines has something to do with it or maybe it's just an indication of a lack of confidence. I'm all for varying your play, but doing it without purpose or direction is pointless.
