Roberto Martinez discussion

It's refuting your persistent claims that it's knee jerk after one game, 24 hours etc. Your claims that one victory will mean everything is great again - it's patronising nonsense.

The amount of posts in this thread in recent weeks tells you it isn't.

The threads from last season tells you it isn't.

Your spamming/monopolising this thread, with the same view over and over and over and over. You've made this thread beyond tedium for me. I'm sure others are the same. 'Ugh, dave again...'
What am I to do, ignore the comments and not respond with my viewpoint?

I dispute your view that this is something that's been going on this season (last season yes, but not this). There's a fever broken around yesterday's result that's sent things skirtling off into mass over reaction.

Far less?

On the plaudits he received from Evertonians and non-Evertonians alike...up until yesterday like....when we finally lost after two months...funny that.

I don't think that's entirely accurate...on the non evertonion side of things so have Watford/Leicester/Palace

Is that supposed to mean something? Two arbitrarily chosen sets of figures that bear no relation to each other?

Oh dear.
They are related that in his last 10 fixtures with a much worse set of players he got more points than he has in his most recent 10. If this had been posted in a parallel universe where Martinez was a good manager and had won 7 of the last 10 and I posted these stats you'd of just liked it and moved on. But because the stats don't fit, similar to when you said the Guardian's journo had a opinion that didn't count yet broadcasters on national radio did. I dread to think you were referring to.

Baines is a better left back than Galloway.

Baines needs matches to get fully match fit. The only way he'll get match fit is to play games, it's a complete no-brainer. Wanting Galloway to keep his place is just an emotional reaction.

I'd guess Roberto was hoping to only give Baines 70 minutes and then replace him with Galloway to see out the last two games, but we've needed Baines attacking flair so he's got the full 90.
I dont see Baines bringing much other than more disruption to an already disrupted back four. What you want at the back is familiarity. I can see the sixes and sevens its adding to the proceedings. Besides, Galloway for me is a defender more than an attacking FB. I think we have all the attacking flair we need in this side and would prefer a flatter back four.

It's December mate. Leicester have had a great season but will be pegged back to about 6th. Watford and Palace will be scrapping it out with us for 7th/8th/9th...in their very best seasons.

There's no changing of the guard here.
Wow. Have you got tuesdays lottery numbers while you`re still using the crystal ball?

I can understand Cleverley, not Baines/Howard. On Howard, he immediately got a reaction when he kept faith with his underfire GK. However, TH soon reverted to old ways.

Going back to Baines: I have no problem with him, I just dont think he automatically goes right back in. Not for me. Galloway has done little wrong.
No to jump on your back whilst you're getting a panning but you said (I can vault you) that the minute Jagielka is back Stones should be dropped to pair Mori and Jagielka.

They haven't been playing the football this Everton team have. It's effective, yes. It's not as pleasing on the eye as our play though.

We need some results soon or the whingers will have the team going back into their shells and playing in a meek manner, not taking responsibility.

Funes Mori, the first pen. If he choosed to clear the ball with his right foot and conceded a corner...

To be fair, Mori wouldn't normally fanny about under those circumstances, so it was out of character.

Stones, Baines and Coleman have the necessary skills to play the ball out under intense pressure but Mori doesn't. Hopefully he'll learn from that mistake.

You're going around in circles. It's making me dizzy. Posting frequency wise, maybe multi quote or something, a bit of composure...

Or better yet, go and eat a mince pie and watch a Christmas film. Chill out like...

I'm reasonably well placed to gauge fan sentiment. Biggest Everton fan forum and social accounts etc and I'd disagree.

There's a fever broken around yesterday's result that's sent things skirtling off into mass over reaction.

Again. Disagree. A poll I linked earlier with thousands of responses and showed majority having no faith in Martinez - this was before Yesterday's result...

His job is rightly, under scrutiny. We were atrocious last season, and we've underwhelmed this season. He has to improve, if he doesn't, he has to go IMO. I don't understand the patronising, laughing at fans, branding them knee jerkers who have that view...

The goals are there in this team, but the defending has cost us in recent games when we've not taken enough of our chances. Sunderland is an example (since Jagielka got injured) of when we took our chances well and papered over the defensive cracks with goals. Norwich and Palace were examples of where we needed a bit of leadership at the back to get a clean sheet that would have got us the 3 points. Our forwards could have scored more goals, but we can't rely on them every game.

Unfortunately the average age of our centre back partnership is currently 22/23, which is far from ideal. What we need is Jagielka back, the first choice back 4 to actually stay fit for a handful of games and a bit of form to be built up back there as we know we have the capability to put in good team performances as we have shown this season.

What we don't need to do, for example, is look solely at the fact we're currently only two points ahead of where we were last season and conclude that nothing's changed, bottle it and sack the manager. It's blatantly obvious that a lot has changed and we're not actually far off being a good team currently. We were miles off the pace last season. The minimum I wanted this season (excluding cups) was a marked improvement in performance and a top 8 finish. He's managing one of those so far and wouldn't need much of a turnaround in the second half of the season to achieve the other.
