it's not getting any better, there may be the odd swallow, but the trend is not up.

5 wins in 17

Lets get these first 10 hard ones out of the way.

We'll have a better idea at Christmasc

when is the next fail point - let's give it until?
The window
The 2nd leg of the semi
The 4th round of the FA Cup
Valentines day
Easter
The pre season
The first 4 games
The end of the summer window
We'll know better after 10 games etc etc etc

The deeper and sadder reason is the elephant in the room / power vacuum at the top.
The good ship Evertonia is on automatic pilot
The purser is in day to day charge aka lunatic / asylum with added suntan
While the entertainment director is calling the shots and is not going to sack himself.

Unfortunately, he has also done this with Cleverly and Howard.

Would like to see Galloway come in for Funes Mori.
I can understand Cleverley, not Baines/Howard. On Howard, he immediately got a reaction when he kept faith with his underfire GK. However, TH soon reverted to old ways.

Going back to Baines: I have no problem with him, I just dont think he automatically goes right back in. Not for me. Galloway has done little wrong.

Not keen on some of RM decision making, but the one thing he has got 100% right is bringing Baiines back. It will take him a few games, but he is miles ahead of Galloway at left back. Galloway is good, but play breaks down when he gets the ball when we are attacking

Fans are fans: one game we win "CL place up for grabs now lids"; one game we draw "we're stagnating lads"; one game we lose "we need a new manager, Martinez has had his chance".

plus ca change.
...to complete your employed term: plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose (“the more it changes, the more it's the same thing”)...and that's the issue; it's the same 'Everton that' thing over and over again. Twenty years ago, I'd cut you more slack. But it's not twenty years ago, it's now, and time just isn't on our side

Thing is mate the defensive frailty has been there this season and last now, last season we blamed it on Distin going off the cliff and Alcaraz playing in some games - even though Martinez bought him as a supposed experienced old head at the back, this season we are blaming a player settling in and disruption along the back 4 combined with young players having to play because of that.

One that spans both seasons is us blaming Howard for being simply a poor keeper

At a certain point we have to be unbiased and realistic and say that Martinez CAN judge a good defensive player - but also that he doesn't organise a defence well, christ we play two defensive midfielders, one of whom is pretty highly rated in McCarthy and the other who has a vast amount of experience at the very top level in Barry, we have a top class right back, we have one of England and the leagues best left backs, we have two centre backs who play for England and one who plays for Argentina, yet defensively we look an absolute shambles and likely to concede to any team we play no matter the quality of them.

Some or indeed a large part of that HAS to be rested on Martinez, whilst we have a very relaxed and open way we approach attacking in games which excites, we seem to have the attitude defensively that we should not close down, not get tight or press or make it hard for the opposition to play, utter and complete naivety from a manager who has been in this league for a long time now.

He needs to take off his rose tinted 'beautiful game' glasses and start to realise that as much as the game is about entertaining the fans it is also about giving the fans results even if that means getting ugly at times. you stated a whilst back that no team would relish facing us - i think the opposite - every team will look forward to facing us as they know that they will be allowed to play there game and will get chances throughout against us, and one thing as a team you shouldn't strive for is to be a team others like to play against

Performance is more important than result was a ridiculous comment made by Martinez. We need result.

To be fair to Martinez, I don't think this current team and squad is anywhere near as good as people are making it out to be. The midfield is poor and the defence is dodgy.
The squad has great potential, and with potential comes some great football but also errors and lack of mental strength.
We have some great looking players who will go on to far better than Everton, sadly they will make ther reputations at our club, but also make all the mistakes whilst evolving.
After the defeat yesterday I thought to myself why do I support Everton
My outlook has always been the same good young footballers being given the chance, great style of football and 100% effort. I always think if they can give me that I am happy, as surely with them 3 ingredients success may follow.
Disappointed but think we are on the right tracks....

Well if you want to break out of that mode you'll have to wait for an oligarch to pump hundreds of millions into this club.

The alternative is to point at the manager and wonder why CL football isn't on offer after a meagre net spend that's matched by giants like Stoke.

Then judge him on a season if that's your true criteria. See how it works?

The alternative is to support/oppose the manager at every single success/reversal. It sounds exhausting.

So we judge him at the end of this season, while totally disregarding last season and our current form?

No mate. There's no time like the present.

They say you're only as good as your last game - one you said we'd win at a canter.

Interesting to see the media starting to pick up on discontent...

Ok, so we go and win at Newcastle. It's all blue skies is it?

We have a team handily placed to get further up the top half of the table and playing some very nice football. We're possibly looking at a cup final around the corner.

You want to judge what's going on beyond the last game? Then judge the situation on that.

The thing is mate, that I'm not knee jerking to Everton's performances per se: I'm responding to your perpetual exonerations of it. You appear to deem yourself having carte blanche toward such...that is what I find exhausting.

WTF are you concentrating on me for?

So what you're saying is that you dont actually feel as strongly as you appear to on the issue, it's just that you want to trip me up?

I find that bizarre, tbh. Still, if it's what you want to do.....
