Roberto Martinez discussion

Frankly, I don't think a cup and a real poor season is good enough. A top ten finish and a cup will feel great, but will have to be viewed as disappointing in terms of progressing in terms of our league performance. If we are 15th and win the cup, I'd think Martinez is on very thin ice. I've been a consistent supporter of Martinez (like many on here), but this team is underperforming in the league for the second season running. Our defense is comically naive at times. I want him to succeed, but I'm not delusional. If he can't cut it, he can't cut it. The club would be insane to sack him before the end of the season (and they won't, so people calling for his firing when we're tenth need to give their heads a shake). But another season in the bottom half of the table--cup or no cup--is not good enough. In that scenario, I'd imagine there would be a serious discussion in the summer, an opportunity to show a radical improvement defensively, and a sacking by October if he hasn't appreciably turned the ship around. Here's hoping he can make those adjustments now and we start climbing the league, but we've really squandered an easy run of games and we have a really miserable run in January.

Don't think he shall walk in the middle of sesson. Do no good to the club and players. And the board will bear with him as long as BK is in charge anyway, However, Everton will stay in midtable which isn't good enough. Need to turn this around now and having been saying this before the 3-3 draw.

I think this is reasonable actually. I love the way we play but a season out of Europe coming 10th or below and I think he would have to prove himself pronto. the only thing I would say is that the board need to start using the financial income the new TV deal is getting now. Other clubs are making full use and they will bypass us quickly. The bigger wage the better your position unless your QPR

I would choose Kone over Mirallas at present sir.

Therefore you are wrong and I wish for you to retract your statement.

I thank you.
You'd get 10x the return from Kev you have from Kone in these last 5 matches, Christ, Mirallas came on did more in 15 mins than Kone has done in 5 games.

Give Mirallas a run in the side, give him the chances Kone has had and there is only one winner.

If you can't see that you've got sh!t in your eyes.

He won't his transfer/scouting policy is poor.

9.5M for a CB who hoofs it as hard as he can out of touch at at opportunity? Hell I could do that.
One thing you can't knock him for is his transfer dealings.
He is doing a hell of a lot wrong but he can spot a player

Poor refereeing I thought.
...you ARE a bureaucrat! lol. I like the cut of you jib though mate. I have sailed on WUM winds like you travel many time...birds of a feather.
On serious note though, our club needs to find skipper to steer us toward fairer wind

Getting 5th or 6th is better than being midtable tosh, innit? I don't even get what you're getting at here, chief.

Simple chief. 5th and 6ths when is was plain to see that was the best it could possibly get is simply staying cautious and steady. Attempting to progress the football and structure is the only chance we would get of breaking into the top 4. I would rather fail trying than not trying at all and just aim for a safe place.

His goal aside Mirallas has been utter plop for months now.

I will wait for you to retract your statement sir and ignore the contravening of the swear filter which one has duly reported.

so his policy is poor because of three relatively low cost signings? Kone, Alacaraz and mcgeady? while Barry, Rom, Del, and McCarthy have all come good and those were the signings he spent significant money on. Mori has played well but has blunders (a bit of distin) he may well end up not working out or he could be great. he hasn't even played a full half season of football in this country and you're already writing him off. Martinez has had some poor transfers and some great ones. However the poor ones outside of Kone were low cost punts while he hit on all "big money" signings

If by skipper you mean take the armband off Jagielka then yes.

Total outlay £20.2m. Average rating 7/10

It is a Roberto Martínez mantra that a squad must be stronger at the close of a transfer window than the start and despite testing supporters’ patience again and missing out on Andriy Yarmolenko, Everton achieved their manager’s aim while also strengthening their under-21 ranks. Andy Hunter

Gerard Deulofeu £4.2m, 1,064 minutes played. Barcelona wisely insisted on a buy-back option for the winger. Despite the odd erratic display, the Spaniard is producing the most sparkling football of his career. 9/10

Tom Cleverley Free, 723 minutes played The free capture fromManchester United made a steady start before being sidelined for almost two months with an ankle ligament injury. Has made an encouraging return in place of the injured James McCarthy. 6

Aaron Lennon £4.5m, 293 minutes played Has failed to recreate the impact of last season’s loan spell since his permanent arrival from Tottenham Hotspur and been deployed mostly as a substitute. 5

Mason Holgate £1m, 0 minutes played Everton raided Barnsley, source of John Stones, once again for the talented 18-year-old who is yet to feature at senior level but nearing inclusion in the manager’s plans. n/a

Leandro Rodríguez £0.5m, 0 minutes played Bought for the future from River Plate Montevideo but included in Martínez’s squad for the Capital One Cup tie at Reading after an impressive start in the under-21s, only for his swift progress to be halted by injury. n/a
