Roberto Martinez discussion

Frankly, I don't think a cup and a real poor season is good enough. A top ten finish and a cup will feel great, but will have to be viewed as disappointing in terms of progressing in terms of our league performance. If we are 15th and win the cup, I'd think Martinez is on very thin ice. I've been a consistent supporter of Martinez (like many on here), but this team is underperforming in the league for the second season running. Our defense is comically naive at times. I want him to succeed, but I'm not delusional. If he can't cut it, he can't cut it. The club would be insane to sack him before the end of the season (and they won't, so people calling for his firing when we're tenth need to give their heads a shake). But another season in the bottom half of the table--cup or no cup--is not good enough. In that scenario, I'd imagine there would be a serious discussion in the summer, an opportunity to show a radical improvement defensively, and a sacking by October if he hasn't appreciably turned the ship around. Here's hoping he can make those adjustments now and we start climbing the league, but we've really squandered an easy run of games and we have a really miserable run in January.

Roberto is that you???? You really are so cringe. I actually worry for your mental health.

Even those who are content/happy with Martinez can see flaws/concerns.
Worry for someone who's been steady all season in expectation and still sticks to it when people like you have been up and down like a yo-yo?

Save your concern for yourself and the other Ashworth candidates mate. Nothing wrong with this Steady Eddie. It's all good from my viewpoint. On course for my objectives this season. Calm and confident here.

So if Martinez had his team playing horrible football with not a chance on earth of making the top 4 but winning ugly 1-0's to get 5th or 6th place it would be more acceptable than trying to change the whole structure of attempting to win in style and get into the top 4.

Getting 5th or 6th is better than being midtable tosh, innit? I don't even get what you're getting at here, chief.

The league is competitive. Look at the travails of the like of Man. Utd. and Chelsea and to an extent the RS.

We are an entertaining but vulnerable mid division team. Hopefully our manager is learning as are his players.

No more can sensibly be said. Any "sack the manager stuff really needs to be forgotten.

He's not got the balls to make tough decisions, and he continues to play Kone because he bought him and is trying to stop him from becoming a flop, and becoming one is me being generous.

There is not a fan of this club that would continue to pick him over Mirallas, and it has a massive impact on our game, he breaks down our attacks, gets into good shooting positions only to have a brain fart.

You know I thought Naismith was the best defensive mid we've ever played against, but Kone is running him close these last 5 matches.

Dragged us from embarrassment you say? Last season was one of the most embarrassing since being a supporter. This season isn't that much better.

The anti-Moyes, pro-Martinez rhetoric is boring, Dave.
...agree...we're all peering behind the curtain now...and seeing some balding old guy pretending to be a wizard.

I would choose Kone over Mirallas at present sir.

Therefore you are wrong and I wish for you to retract your statement.

I thank you.

Yeah like when we get the ball inside the area we still wanna pass pass pass instead of having a shot. We barely put crosses in when the teams are levelled. No urgency unless the team is behind.

It's not always a bad thing, I like the way we play. We've been exhilarating at times this season, so I have no real complaints there.

I'm just finding it interesting that Leicester are taking football back to its most basic form (I say trying not to do too much of a disservice to that team and Ranieri, as its obviously more intricate than I'm insinuating), and swatting the league aside in doing so. It may force a rethink if it carries on for much longer.
