why do people keep mentioning Yarmolenko?

Not. A. Chance. In. Hell.

Signed a new contract ensuring Kiev get a sizable fee which we won't pay in January even with the odd outgoing sale. TV money or not we don't pay till that cheque clears next summer.

Also he's in a last 16 Champions league team. His Euro 2016 prospects don't improve if he comes to us. He's an automatic pick. Sorry to get all Greg O'Keefe!!!!

I reckon we were all aware mate but that's a good summary of it.

At best see one ish player in one ish player out, someone unsettled (Naismith, Mirallas) out, maybe a modest signing in, fringe player at a big club, or someone young with bags of potential, certainly no more than 10 million spent.

Saying this, someone could get crocked before the new year, and fate dictates Naismith or Mirallas suddenly get a run in the team and don't move as they're needed till summer.

IF, IF, it's true i think there'll be some big fish in for him.

Be nice though wouldn't it? To have a board capable/willing to speculate to accumulate, whilst we have a team with potential to push top 4, with one or two more good level signings. Now i've just depressed myself ha ha!

Martinez needs to do a bit of business in January or there's no chance in hell we're making top 4. We desperately need a new keeper and a creative left winger, and we should be getting some cash on McGeady, Gibson and Mirallas. Is that too much to ask? If we aren't top 5 at the very least this season, our promising young squad is going to crumble to bits as Lukaku and Stones are out of here. And it'll be no-one's fault but Martinez's.

There is not a cat's chance in hell for a Yarmolenko deal at this point tbh. If by some miracle of luck he doesn't leave in January it's maybe likelier in the summer if he's getting guaranteed CL football.

IN:
  • Denys Boyko
  • Denis Cheryshev/Munir/Sandro
OUT:
  • Mirallas
  • McGeady
  • Gibson

You can stop dreaming of new keeper this january. You seem to assume we are going to get rid of three players -atleast....cmoon.

Tim Howard is the second best keeper in the premiership this season according to Fox

Pretty sure your whole point was tongue-in-cheek, but it's sorted on saves - number of saves doesn't equal best keeper by any stretch. Using statistics to effectively rank keepers is pretty much impossible - they can't track the kinds of stats that would matter (e.g. proper positioning in the box) because they're so subjective. This is about as close as they have, and it's nowhere near detailed as to how it's calculated:

That has Howard fourth, which I still think is quite generous. He's certainly better than most of you make him out to be (a bit above mid-tier - about where we've been in the table), but he's clearly on the decline and not the kind of goalie you want leading you in a top 4 bid and multi-season success.

Regarding this transfer window, I'd like to see us go after a young up-and-comer outside of the Premier League, but I'm not going to pretend to know who's who in that arena (and am not that fussed to research it :)) and just will hope that RM and our scouts will sort us out with the right one. Needs to happen sooner than later, though... I don't think anyone in their right mind wants to see Howard as first choice upon starting the 2016/2017 campaign.

Would still love us to have a go at QPR for Austin. Looking back at our performances this season, we could have used someone like him against Swansea, Liverpool, Palace, West Ham. Someone who is not the most technically gifted player but can get us goals. I also suspect that with the new manager at QPR, he may be looking to rebuild the squad and, therefore, may be tempted to sell Austin in order to free up cash. Just my humble opinion (gets coat).

He also isn't cup tied for the League Cup (just sayin').
