Computer games.

That's not a good comparison though.

In the same way that you wouldn't judge a film from 1980 alongside a 2015 film in terms of CGI you also don't judge a game from the 90s against a modern AAA title. You look at them compared to their peers. In that regard Fallout 4s graphics are disappointing.
That wasn't really the point though, we were talking about how graphics shouldn't impede gameplay. If the gameplay is good enough to grab you, you don't notice the graphics as much

For me it's the character models and lip syncing so bad the Spice Girls would blush that lets the visuals down on the whole.

I think the world itself looks great, some of the vistas are stunning and they have really hit the nail with the weather effects and lighting. Wondering around in the fog with all the god-rays shining through looks awesome, not to mention the radiation storms!

Although, perhaps this is the basket in which they have thrown all their graphical eggs ;)

Still, this shows the new high standards that Witcher 3 has set for open world games!

Although, dodgy character models, horrendous AI and a monumental amount of glitches aside, it is a damn fun game :p

I do though. As do many others...
I'm not saying your points are not correct, just offering up a different perspective. I understand graphics are a big part of gaming and essentially why we keep upgrading our hardware. Some games just don't need top end visuals to be great, that's all.

Some games these days are made with terrible graphics and it does definitely affect what people think about games. I remember when Fallout 3 came out and you leave the vault for the first time, I thought the graphics looked brilliant at the time but when Fallout 4 is this many years later you expect more.

Another game with truly horrendous graphics for this day and age is Rainbow Six Siege - if someone told me it was Rainbow Six Vegas 2 on the Xbox 360 I'd believe them.

Completely agree. I'd rather play Bomberman on the SNES with three mates than play the latest Call of Duty nonsense - tighter gameplay, more fun.

Weirdly, PGA Tour Golf II on the Mega Drive is my favourite golf game too; despite looking like crap it kicks the arse of the Tiger Woods titles IMO.

Hundreds more examples. If anything, the chase for graphics over the last decade has been harmful to getting gameplay right.

Both of those games were superb! Bomberman is so simple yet works beautifully. PGA II was also my fave golf game on the Mega Drive.

But rudimentary graphics lower immersion.

There is only one game available that really gives you immersion. Elite: Dangerous, controlled with a HOTAS, using an Oculus Rift and voice attack. Nothing comes remotely close in terms of immersion.
3) Terrible autosave. Seriously, autosaves when you change a weapon but not when you have discovered 5 locations and killed a load of people on your way somewhere?.

Autosaves make the game too easy. IMO, autosave should be binned all together.

in a game like fallout though, far too easy to be exploring for ages and die in a landmine and have to start it all over again haha
