We are considering signing Ron Vlaar

I think it is quite possible that he will sign and I wouldn't be surprised if Stones goes either in January or the summer, not
that I want that to happen, but this is Everton and for all the talk that we do not have to sell now, I am not convinced of
this, especially if a huge offer comes in.

I doubt anyone's going to pay us what we'd want for Stones mid season, his worth to us will be even higher than it was over the summer.

Vlaar signing would have absolutely no bearing on what happens with Stones.

Those two things would be independent of each other.

I hope you and Dithering Dougie are correct, all I'm saying is I wouldn't be surprised if Stones went in January or the summer, but I can understand your reasoning.

I would not be surprised at all if he went over the summer...as long as someone comes in for him early with a truckload of cash. 50 mil and time to fill the void and improve a few positions? Take it.

I think if he signs he'll be eligible for the League Cup but not the league?

I'm sure i read somewhere that Michu was being released so that he could prove himself to clubs, so he could sign by Jan 1st Window.

However, i'm sure he will be eligible for Sporting Lisbon anyway.

The summer and after a good tournament is a different game altogether, but that's when the serious contenders start knocking on the door not a little club from London.

We said Doug , some on here were convinced 28 mil was a good price for us to take in the summer.
This lad really is that special the real Big clubs will be fighting over him after the Euro's....How much was Sterling ?

You sound suspiciously like the former beautiful loon that lit up the transfer window thread @Adversus

Mmmmmm

Frankly, we'll never get as much for a defender as for an offensive player regardless of the fact that he's as good a defender as Sterling is an attacker (if that even makes sense).

He'd be eligible for all competitions. Michu's case is a different one as he's already been registered for another club this season, so he must wait until the next transfer window to be able to switch to another one.

A little perspective required here.....David Luiz.

Sure you can find an exception or two, but it's not that the general tendency shows clubs pay as much for defenders as they do for attackers. City have done so in the last years, but that's the result of poor scouting and a willingness to pay gargantuan fees for centre halves, but if we don't want to sell him to a domestic rival, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich etc. usually don't splash out the big money on defenders.
