We are considering signing Ron Vlaar

Roberto Martinez was also asked about a move for ex-Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar, who is a free agent but recovering from knee surgery.

"In Ron Vlaar you're talking about a player who has really good experience in the Premier League, he's unattached but at the moment it's not for me to mention any other players not in the squad."

Definitely something there.

as said what if Stones/Mori get s long term injury this weekend we would be down to the kids with a cup quarter final and v important EPL games coming up. For free its a no brainer IMO, if it doesn't work out he'll be worth a couple of mil in a years time if he stays injury free

deffo need a replacement old foreign defender since distin and alcaraz left, plus he's dutch they are always fun

I'd be really happy with him.

Good defender, maybe he can't bring the ball out in the Martinez mould but you need a bit of variety I reckon.

And on a free.

Looking at Villa fan posts they say he was very good in 2013-14 and decent the next year. However he's insanely slow, often injured and may even be slower now. I'm not sure he'd work here. Its one thing to be good in a system like Villa had 2 years ago where it was 10 men back all of the time and being a CB for us where the only help you have when the other side counters is Jags or Mori.

On the other hand, he's not Alcaraz.
