Why shouldn't men have a say in the decision whether to continue a pregnancy?

Fairly sure if someone else forced me to spend nine months carrying and then giving birth to a child I did not want to keep I'd be fairly pissed about that. Conversely if someone told me I had to give up a child I wanted to raise I would be quite angry as well. In fact the notion men would tolerate that over the years is laughable. Women would have NO say if we gave birth. So yeah ... doesn't really make any sense for us to have a say really. We will have to console ourselves with making more money for the same job, being able to walk around without fear, not having periods etc etc.

As for Howard being religious that superstitious nonsense tends to get right out the window where it belongs when faced with 18 years of bills.

I can't believe so many people on here want rid of Howard. True, he's not Neville Southall or Nigel Martyn but he's probably better than any other keeper we have had in half a century. He is still one of the best keepers in the league. We have only conceded one goal more than Man City and Arsenal and they are 1 and 2 in the league at the moment.

Yes, Howard had a shaky period last season but all keepers do and in fact all players lose form at some point. Can we honestly say that the best keeper in the world would not have let a few in whilst standing behind a defence containing an ageing Distin and Alcaraz (the latter being almost as likely to put the ball in Howard's net as the opposition strikers).

Im all for opinions, but he was statistically the poorest keeper in the league last season by some difference. Shows you how good our defence is that teams with real world class keepers like De Gea and Hart only have marginally better records than us. We could have the best record in the league if we had a top keeper. Even an average keeper would probably improve our record.

That may well be the case SD, but in the premier league era only Schmeichel, Van der Sar, Hart, Cech, Seaman, Reina, Martyn and Hart have kept more clean sheets per appearance than Howard. With the exception of Martyn, all those had ten pretty good players (mostly title winning sides) in front of them. Even when Howard had a decent defence in front of him, the fact that our attack was non existent in the Moyes era left our defence (and keeper) under pressure for 90 minutes all too often. I think with a letter keeper we would have been far worse off.

It's all guess work though...maybe if the Moyes team had had Howard as keeper and the usual defence but then had a potent attacker we might have fared better. However, paying £11 million odd for a proven goalscorer like Yakubu and then watching him running the lines or jogging around in the centre circle suggests that we could have had Van Persie and Van Nistelrooy up front and not scored many goals....

In summary, I think too many are quick to dismiss Howard when actually his record isn't that bad at all. Yes, last season wasn't great, but then Rooney had a poor season at Man U (14 goals) and is still being hailed as an all time great.

Howard's shaky period has lasted the best part of 3 and a half years. People think he was amazing in 13/14 but he really wasn't, he just wasn't quite as bad and seemed amazing in comparison to the absolute shambles of a season he had in 14/15 and 12/13

Can we leave the stats out and just be honest and admit he is bloody shakey and has been for a while. JUst watch the games and leave off on the argument of ... "we conceded only this many, so he is obviously very good despite the dodginess displayed on an ever increasing frequency"

I just want a normal goalkeeper that does the basics well, apart from a few mistakes and the very rare howler. Not a goalkeeper that makes weird decisions on how to position himself and when to come out or stay on his line. Or like those two tackles he made in the derby, when he should have claimed both with his hands. Just odd stuff, and I'm tired of it.

Watching all of this I don't care where he is in the all-time records for Prem League clean sheets. It makes no difference when his reliability is fading by the season. He is lucky to have reliable defenders/central midfielders that limit the chances he has to deal with.

I love the squad we have now, and really think a playmaker and an upgrade on the keeper would really push us on.

Sell, please.

edit: or get a new no1, and have him as a decent backup

Howard is declining with age as all players do and more than likely needs to be replaced or have more competition brought in to challenge him. That said, he really is not as bad as some are making out. Even during a poor season he made some superb saves that kept us in games and before anybody get upset and feels the need to point it out I am well aware that he also lost us some points too...

Dead right.

He is on the skids. Coming out with his feet to block attackers as if he was playing in a sunday morning pub league and staying on his line even if the centre is right in front of him are big defects and typical of a keeper who is on the decline.

I can't believe how many points he cost us last season and we can start the tab this season with the two points dropped against LFC.
