Alcohol.......

It's a hard one to give up sugar because its in so much stuff, I just cut out the stuff I know is full of bad sugar like fizzy drinks and junk food

Just realised it is 4 months since I gave up alcohol and whilst I'd admit I'd love a very nice glass of wine from time to time, actually after the first couple of weeks/month I've never thought about it.

Next stop is to try to remove sugar completely from my diet.
Do you mean added or refined sugar as opposed to naturally occurring sugars?

Sugar converts to fat, that's why it's bad for you. Natural sugars from fruit do not do this. Strange, proper fats like butter, cheese and olive oil are good for you, unlike Margerine.

Not sure this is accurate... Sugar is sugar and will be converted into fat. The difference between eating fruit and sweets/cakes etc is that fruit is packed full of water, fibre and lots of vitamins/minerals. This obviously gives you much more nutrition but will also make you feel full. Eating high sugar sweets/snacks often makes you crave more after a brief sugar high.

What you said might have a bit of truth behind it as well though.

Very interesting thread ...smoked since I was 14..gave up 10 yrs ago, no problems. I am type 2 diabetes and gave up spirits 3 years ago apart from the odd malt at celebrations. Love my beer and enjoy finding great pubs and restaurants more than drinking at home. My wife shares a love of good wine with me and we still socialise a lot together and with friends ..always love a drink or 2 listening to my music and that has been with me for a long time. Dont do hangovers anymore ..not worth it. All I would say is don't let alcohol or pot or pills dictate your life ..listen to your body .. xx

You're right that sugar is still sugar, but sugar in fruit like you said contains mostly fibre which takes a lot less calories to break it down compared to say the sugar in fizzy drinks.

Good read. I have a bit of a problem with the demon drink lately, it's not so much the amount, 5/6 cans but the frequency which is most days and mainly out of boredom.

Considering a third bottle, very moreish.
