Alcohol.......

On a personal level, I have always enjoyed a social drink when out for a meal, going to the match or with friends, but over the weekend I've decided to give it up completely, not because it's a problem but it just seems a sensible thing to do.

Just realised it is 4 months since I gave up alcohol and whilst I'd admit I'd love a very nice glass of wine from time to time, actually after the first couple of weeks/month I've never thought about it.

Next stop is to try to remove sugar completely from my diet.

Fair play mate.

Ironically, swerving sugar will probably be harder, in that it is had to know exactly where it is present at times. It occurs naturally in fruit doesnt it?

Good luck with the sugar challenge. Its one thing giving up alcohol but its something else altogether to give up sugar completely from a diet. That is quite a challenge let me tell you.

I allow myself 35g a day from all my food and drink and no more. To remove it completely would be a heck of a challenge. Infact its almost impossible for me to remove it completely due to my own personal diet, proteins i eat and drink, carbs i take. So good luck with that mate.

Interesting mate, I have to do some research and plan a bit. Will probably be impossible given travelling but as an aim it's worth doing I think.

As with the alcohol, it's not going to be absolute, just setting myself a challenge that has positive consequences.

I couldn't not drink, I'm far too funny after a few beers. It would be unfair to society.

Me neither. Not in a "must have a drink to function" way, or wanting one when you wake up, (which must be hell on earth), but I just enjoy a pint, and a wine with a meal. My whole family are the same. It has just always been part of our upbringing and life. Like in a French sort of way.

Even though we arnt even a little bit French.

I don't drink that much to be fair, nowhere near as much as I used to.

I'd find it too hard going out with the lads and not drinking while the all have a bevvy.

My biggest vice. I've had my time doing drugs and can take or leave them, but I can't ease up on the ale. 5 or 6 cans each night, double on a weekend. The trouble is I don't *want* to stop, so I never will.

No idea me mate. Not entirely sure why sugar is so bad for you, other than in massive amounts, or as a result of eating nowt but cakes, crisps, and basically rubbish food.
Sugar converts to fat, that's why it's bad for you. Natural sugars from fruit do not do this. Strange, proper fats like butter, cheese and olive oil are good for you, unlike Margerine.

Dont have a problem being the driver when we, rarely, go out. And if I have an early drive I have no problem not drinking the night before.

Just dont see my consumption as an issue, health wise, nor addiction wise. Take more notice of my consumption of the old fashioned fruit gums, the ones that you could get in a box. I open a box or packet of them and I will devour them all in about 30 mins. Then feel poorly. So swerve them.

Didnt know that. Eat few sweets, see my fruit gums comment, never have it in drinks, dont drink fizzy drinks, and rarely eat pudds/cakes. One ready meal a week, tops, which I know is stuffed full of it.

Guess the majority of my sugar must be from ale, and from fruit. Have 12 apple trees, so eat a fair few of them.

Yeah mate there is lots of hidden things to consider when giving up sugar completely. If anything i think you would struggle on an everyday basis and get tired of the hassle each day. Simple things like Ketchup, Fried foods, Sausages and Milk contain sugar. Even if you compiled a list of the foods you could eat that don't list sugar on the nutrient content list, there is a chance that these foods would contain Carbs. Carbs turn into Glucose on the flip side and so that in itself is a sugar.

What you're left with is a very small list that contain zero sugar. Lean meats, Poultry and Eggs off the top of my head. Fish is another possibility.

I think over time you would get quite pissed off with eating the same food groups each day. You'd be an alcoholic in no time ironically lol
