We've signed new contracts with Mirallas, McCarthy and Garbutt who you were all sweating over losing at some point in the summer. We kept hold of Stones despite incredible pressure to sell him.

That has to be part of the consideration for the window. Coupled with the players we've signed it's not been too bad.

My concern would be how many of the new ones will improve the first team and that our biggest target was scouted by playing well against us in the Europa League seemingly.

Chico, do you know if they have a "transfer deadline day" on FM and FIFA?

If so some of our chums must be exhausted right now :pint2:

One of the more irritating opinions I've read today by several posters is that we shouldn't be celebrating retention.

Sell to buy has been thrown around ad nauseum.

We didn't sell...we fought off Chelsea...we retained important players. Huge for us based off recent history.

They do on FIFA mate as I can't help myself squeezing everything to buy a new player when the 10 hours to go clock ticks up.

Thankfully I don't confuse it with real life and will happily concede I'm a clueless nugget who rightfully doesn't earn a living off professional football.

I think a 6 is fair, I think all the signings were good and we didn't lose any first team players. The reason for a 6 is because we were genuinely linked with Yarmolenko and Bernard who would have been great number 10 options but it never materialized? Even Martinez said when they confirmed Mori that he was looking to confirm 2 more attacking players. I assume 1 of those was Lennon but who was the other one....Lamela or Embolo?

Anyway not a massive disappointment but we still need a 10 to feed the beast that is Lukaku!

Alternative viewpoint:

Howard
Robles
Barry
Gibson
Pienaar
McGeady (runoured bids in)
Naismith (£8mil ?!?!?!?!?!)
Kone

Not a single one punted out...that is already pretty shocking and a total waste of wages.

The whole Naismith bid reminds me of the bid from Besiktas for Saha, absolute stupidity to reject it.

It seems Martinez doesnt want to be proactive in shipping out players unless their contracts are up or they are unsettling the squad....

The signings of Cleverley / Deulofeu /Henen /Lennon seem to have been long tied up before the window opened.

You have to give credit for Mori and Leandro for spotting them but £10mil+ on two gambles who dont have 'phenomenal' track records seems excessive. Its not like anyone is raving about them being (or potentially being) class...

Holgate is one for the future so we'll see.

We needed players to come into the 1st eleven and create competition for places, weve done that on right wing but thats about it.

This is the concern. We seem to have gone for quantity rather than proven quality, either by choice or being forced into it. Time will tell if we unearth a couple of gems, or have added more average footballers to join those you have mentioned above.

Next summer will be interesting:

Hibbert
Gibson
Pienaar
Kone
Osman

Off the top of my head are out of contract.

If it was me i'd have ditched a couple of the others such as Naismith and McGeady for fees as next summer he can hardly get rid of the 5 mentioned as well as these 2...no way will he punt 7 players
