Overall: meh. Very disappointed because Martinez teased us with the elusive "Number 10." If he had said all along that we would keep the core players and only add a few pieces, might be very happy.

We didn't get Yarmalenko but we tried. We'll get hiin January when Kiev are out of the Champions League and he's cup-tied, so to speak

6 from me. Some decent signings but missed a real trick with no 'playmaker' (Pienaar replacement).

6. Kept stones, extended McCarthy and Kev, brought in some great prospects(holgate, henen, Rodriguez), solid additions to the squad (cleverly, del, Mori, Lennon). Missing out on yarmolenko or a player like him is what drags this window down. Would've been a 9 or 10 if we got that

If this Mori dude turns out to be a dud as predicted by Vickery then it seriously calls into question Matinez's ability to scout talent. In fairness, Moyes for all his faults very rarely got it wrong when spending big money (except for Billy of course!!)

In fairness I think Barkley is happy. He always has wanted to play the No 10 role so I don't think he would have liked us bringing in that sexy No 10.

Gave it a 4, not for purchases but for not selling. I got sick of this window. In terms of buying we really haven't moved forward a great deal, more consolidation.
All that nonsense about 3 players and a play maker.

Pretty decent generous 8 for me. Trust Matinez with the 2 South Americans, and he said he wouldn't splash the cash just for the sake of it. Deulofeu decent signing for £4.5 mill, same with Cleverley but free, Lennon - we need his speed for the counter attacks particularly away from home. That's 5 new squad faces and Henen and Holgate for the future. Decent in my opinion.

Maybe by not getting the No 10/play maker Barkley will get more game time to learn his trade. I'm quite happy with

Deulofeu Mirallas Lennon Barkley - any 3 from those 4 in a 4 2 3 1. With 2 from Cleverley/Besic/McCarthy/Barry

Or in a 4 3 3 with 2 from Mirallas/Deulofeu/Lennon and Lukaku
3 from Barkley Barry McCarthy Besic Cleverley

Had we got Yarmolenko it would have been a 10. Unfortunately it never really looked likely.

People really shouldn't kid themselves that this is happening. He'll be on a free in the summer and he'll go to a big ambitious club.

Perhaps Martinez was set on one player but that wasn't possible but felt between Barkley lukaku and Naismith and Mirallas had enough.

Especially as we now have proper wingers

Roberto also said that if he couldn't get the right player(s) then he wouldn't buy for the sake of it. Quite right too.
