John Stones transfer saga

I think the money bandied about for Stones is ridiculous. We watch Stones every match, and mostly believe he'll be something special despite the occasional brainfart. I was never annoyed at Chelsea biding, it was the spreading it about the public domain, and despite Martinez saying not for sale it was pushed and pushed again. The initial rejection was still made public by Mourinho for his own teams gain. Lukaku was a player that he wanted shut of. Everton have made it patently clear from day 1 we didn't want to sell (well, as far you could tell without being privvy to board-level communications).
I have no idea why Zouma and Kalas aren't being pushed on (Love Kalas if only for that game against the RS)
I can not fathom why CFC would rather spend 40million on Stones when they could give Kalas another chance after he impressed so well with the one chance he was given.

Why would stones agree to that ? Stones submitted a transfer request because he wanted to move .
Perhaps they said he'd only get a move this way? Anyway I'm just having stupid ideas as I'm so used to this useless board trying all sorts to placate fans. I am fed up with every transfer in or out being a drawn out saga!!!

I'd like us to spend every spare second of the next 5 days faxing over 1 pound bids for their star players, slowly increasing by increments of 15p.
This made me laugh far more than is reasonable. Perhaps we could also share the fax number, and the content of the faxes and enlist a few (lot of) irate fans to join the fun. With any luck we could make them grind to a halt...

I hope that somehow we can keep hold of Stones, not just for now, but for many years to come and see Everton return to the pinnacle of English football. I say this with a view to future generations of fans. My father has sadly found out that his cancer is inncurrable, having spread beyond it's initial diagnosis. Beyond my generation nobody in my family supports Everton. The lack of success and my siblings marrying into families of United fans makes it increasingly difficult.

When we are long gone Everton will still remain, I just hope she gets the treatment deserved rather than being ridiculed by the likes of Jason Cundy and other no mark mouthpieces of the media.

Heartbroken.

Sorry to hear that, Darth

Sorry to hear about your dad mate.

Well that's actually what happened anyways. All Chelsea fans got painted with this brush by many.

I can understand the frustration but people need to realise that when any agent of Chelsea have spoken about Stones to the media, it's because the media asked a direct question about Stones. Same with Martinez talking about Lukaku when he was a CFC player. If anyone can point out to me of some sort of press release Chelsea have put out about stones, or any unprompted talk about Stones by Chelsea agents, then I will apologize for the actions of the club/club representative.
You just can't draw parallels between Stones and Lukaku. The world and his wife knew Mourinho wanted rid of Rom - not to mention the fact that he'd been on loan with us until a few weeks beforehand.

As for the "unprompted" nature... Every sit down interview with a premier league footballer (as with other celebs) is preceded by the journalist sitting down with a publicist from the club, at which point it is agreed what questions can and can't be asked. You can't possibly be naive enough to think that the journalist in (for example) the Cahill interview wasn't prompted to spend the entire time talking to him about Stones?

Not for me, but I wouldn't pay these sums for Stones right now. Let's say he has a world class season, I don't see his value rising much from what it currently is. Too much for someone so unproven at this point in my opinion.

I would also rate Varane and Zouma ( partly why I'm not so fussed about Stones staying) as better prospects, off the top of my head, and if wanted a young English prospect, i think Dier offers better value for the money that would be expected (in I feel he is similar to Stones but with less mistakes and a far lower fee would be expected) but that's just my own personal opinion.
Sorry, Dier isn't even in the same ball park in terms of ability or potential as Stones - and i rate Dier quiet highly.

Stones's value will only go up, for two main reasons. One, if he is involved with England at the Euros, which I would say is fairly likely if his form continues. Two, the massive new influx of additional TV money next season will inflate transfer fees in general even further.

The cynic in me thinks the board may have played a masterstroke here. Get Stones to hand in request, reject it, look great, fans forget about lack of signings for a bit and window closes without any major signings. Also makes us look stronger in media.
And Stones goes along with this ruse because.......?

NEA if you apologize mate but will you at least acknowledge how this is not comparable to Martinez/Lukaku or us buying Stones in the first place (as many CFC fans have claimed over and over again)?

We said "not for sale" in writing and Mourinho bid anyway.

We tried to keep the bid secret and Mourinho made it public anyway.

He deliberately lied in the press to keep things going.

None of those three things AFAIK were true with our purchase of Stones (who was considering an offer from Martinez at Wigan too so they accepted multiple offers) or Lukaku.

Another club reportedly respected the stance (so don't give me that "this is how things work" nonsense as another club did not stoop so low).

Is it illegal within football? Probably yes but it happens so often nobody does anything.

But all that aside ... the real wind up is the whole "you did the same exact thing with Lukaku and Stones" nonsense. That's far from the mark.

Then the incredulity that we're upset about this. We've had two months disrupted because Mourinho didn't respect our stance that he wasn't for sale. We've gone from a player who was happy here to unhappy and lord knows the impact on the rest of the players (and staff and fans). Illegal or not of course any set of fans would be upset by that turn of events FFS. I mean honestly.
I agree they are very different situations but they are similar in that the media dictates the conversation. Clubs and managers obviously have influence but they tend to only answer the questions put in front of them.

I also say this because Chelsea have made a very clear MO as of late of keeping targets secret and then swooping in hard and fast before making noise in the media. If Chelsea, in this occasion, have been leaking to and manipulating the media then I would be quite dissapointed and somewhat embarassed but it would be out of recent character.

The sale of that big humble pie you were baking as you deffo stated Stones would be sold !lol
A/ He may still be sold.
B/ I said it was the likely outcome if we wanted to buy players.

Both still in play, so I'll defer eating any of that humble pie just for now.
