John Stones transfer saga

From (THFC) experience (ie, Berbatov) if the player is going to go, EFC need to make sure they allow themselves plenty of time to buy a replacement. Otherwise you end up with a Frazer Campbell.
definitely. so if anything, if we're going to hold onto him (for now), flip him in jan. we have no time to find a replacement right now

If he really, really wants to leave, we should let him leave, Martinez spoke of bullying last night, it would be bullying to tell him hes going nowhere and he must stay at a dead end club getting paid buttons for a player of his talent.
There is the possibility this will happen by Monday. Shame for football but it is what our club has become unfortunately

By the way, the reaction from all sides and everyone, including the media, both clubs and so on, has been a stark indication to just how badly gash football has become.

I must admit I'm interested until the window closes, but this has soured the whole game for me personally.

It's a sorry state of affairs mate. The Premier League is basically owned by tv companies. The FA and The Premier League are basically prostitutes to SKY/Murdoch et al.

If it doesn't upset SKY, then they'll stand idly by and let it become the circus it has.

For all the bollocks, sensationalism, and hypocritical guff SKY pump out, they still make a profit off us everyday fan.

Tbf, they would be my concerns too. It's great Martinez has said what he's said and it looks (at least at this stage) like Everton are heading for a moral victory, but you have to ask at what cost?

He's an average defender, at best, without the ball at his feet, as he underlined again last night. He has plenty of mistakes in him - mistakes that were brushed under the carpet so far by supporters but who wont be in such forgiving mood from now on. The window remains open and there's still deals that could be cut. If it were me I'd be arranging incomings on the basis of a last day/48 hour sale. We'd just have to deal with the fallout of selling after saying he's not for sale. We have to be pragmatic here. This player's value wont be going up to this level again, imo.

Cmon, a really poor statement. Alcaraz is an average defender at best, Titus Bramble perhaps. The whole of the football world (UK wise) has been passing comment (and making 35mil bids) for this chap. What he does for a man of his age and experience is nothing short of amazing. Last night and on the odd occasion, just like even the best defenders in history, he made errors, he is still one of the best prospects in football.

In what way is Merson implying that stones has been badly advised? Transfer request shouldn't have been made? Should have refused to play for the club last night? Or just irritation that stones is still with us?
Think he was referring to his age, being still young like, but insisted he will be a Chelski player, come Tuesday.

Reminds me of the Modric saga. We refused to sell to Chelsea at £40mn but sold to RM for £35mn the following season.
Personally, i would rather take the £5mn hit than deal with that lot.
Their whole MO is out of order, buy players you dont need purely so other clubs cant get them. Then send most of them out on loan so they take points off your rivals but they cannot then play against their parent club.
But you have owners who invest. We have a bunch of chisellers who've never put a penny into the club since they took over 16 years ago. £5M more means tying a quality player down to a longer contract to us.

Bollocks mate. He can go next year, when we can plan for his departure in a proper manner. Until then, I'm not gonna feel sorry for a 21 year old lad earning £30k per week playing for little old Everton.

His value is most likely going to get a lot higher. When he's first choice for England it will add to his value and the new tv deal will add even more.

It's not just last night though is it? He's looked classy on the ball bringing it out, but his defensive game is all over the shop and has been since he broke into the first team.

Anything in the £35M range should be pounced on straight away in case Chelsea change their mind.
