John Stones transfer saga

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2015/08/everton-should-stop-being-childish-and-let-john-stones-join-chelsea? Everton may remain intransigent about it all, but if they do, Chelsea will probably just buy a cheaper Spanish defender instead. But what if Stones remains unhappy? Or gets injured? Or rather simply fails to fulfill his potential? If any of those things happen, Everton won’t have to worry about how to reinvest £40million to make them better than they would have been. They’ll be facing an entirely new set of circumstances altogether, armed only with the memory of an supreme opportunity missed.

lol lol lol

Tbf, they would be my concerns too. It's great Martinez has said what he's said and it looks (at least at this stage) like Everton are heading for a moral victory, but you have to ask at what cost?

He's an average defender, at best, without the ball at his feet, as he underlined again last night. He has plenty of mistakes in him - mistakes that were brushed under the carpet so far by supporters but who wont be in such forgiving mood from now on. The window remains open and there's still deals that could be cut. If it were me I'd be arranging incomings on the basis of a last day/48 hour sale. We'd just have to deal with the fallout of selling after saying he's not for sale. We have to be pragmatic here. This player's value wont be going up to this level again, imo.

he signed a contract with us though. him leaving at the demands of chelski would just recirculate the unspoken idea that contracts mean nothing. why even sign a contract if you can get swooped up by the big 4? if anything, this is a message to stones and players like him - you sign a contract, you should do your best to honor it. its a precedent that should be set to other players, so it's harder for people to just cry about it and leave. i hate that we're being crucified because we're not letting him go. that's the narrative that needs to be changed

But contracts do mean nothing.

If Chelsea threw 100m at us for him do you think we would care about his contract?

Think we need to take a step back, at the heart of all this is a 21 year old lad with his whole career ahead him, he can spend the next 4 years of his contract playing infront of Tim Howard and behind Leon Osman, while finishing 11th and getting knocked out of every single cup at the 1st or 2nd hurdle or he can go and be champion.

Money cant buy your happiness is a complete lie.

To be fair to us, we have appoached the Berahino thing in a totally professional manner. It has been WBA that has made every aspect of it public knowledge.
Our transfer MO is completely different since Redknapp & Sherwood left.

I haven't seen your manager in the media going "He's not my player, I'm not going to talk about him" and then proceeding to say everything he wants about him while still "not talking about him" and getting both your center halves to talk about him in the media.
