If he has got a genuine problem then I would like to see us take care of him and try and help him, always come across as a decent fella to me but alcoholism is a serious problem and if it does affect him, even on a small scale he will need all the help he can get

I'm all for supporting him with the drink problem but I lose sympathy for anyone who gets behind the wheel when they have been drinking.

Everton FC footballer Darron Gibson has been charged with drink-driving after allegedly crashing his £125,000 Nissan Skyline into a cyclist and petrol pump.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who earns £50,000 per week, allegedly failed to stop after colliding with the cyclist on Park Road, Trafford, on Sunday evening. He then pulled into a petrol station on nearby Dunham Road where he allegedly collided with the petrol pump on the garage forecourt, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.

The footballer was arrested by police and taken to custody.

Gibson was later charged with driving without due care and attention, driving with excess alcohol and failing to stop after the road traffic collision.

The crash is believed to have taken place less than a mile from Gibson’s £2m Altrincham home, at around 9.45pm.

The Irish footballer has been bailed until September 1 when he will appear beforeTrafford Magistrates’ Court.
 

On the bright side..... it could have been a valuable squad member, then we would have been faced with a potentially difficult decision. Bin him.
