@Mikey_Fitzgerald @efc.1878 @TomDixie

Thanks for contacting us about Match of the Day, broadcast on 8th August 2015.

We understand you were unhappy with comments made by the studio pundits during a discussion about Everton player John Stones.

Commentators and pundits only call the game as they see it and football is a game of opinions. It's in the nature of commentating and punditry that contributors are expected to provide their personal view on the action and events surrounding the matches they are watching. All we can expect of them is a fair assessment based on their own knowledge and experience. We do employ a range of contributors to provide as wide a range of views as we can, helping to interpret and cover any given match or result.

We’re sorry on this occasion you feel the comments were wrong and we certainly hope you continue to enjoy the programme in the future.

Thank you again for contacting us, we value your feedback about Match of the Day. All complaints are sent to senior management and programme makers every morning and we included your points in this overnight report. These reports are among the most widely read sources of feedback in the BBC and ensures that your complaint has been seen by the right people quickly. This helps inform their decisions about current and future programmes.

Kind Regards

They did a good job of not answering my complaint at all there. This line: "It's in the nature of commentating and punditry that contributors are expected to provide their personal view on the action and events surrounding the matches they are watching." I don't see what Chelsea's interest in John Stones has remotely to do with the Everton vs Watford match, nor is the fact they've had bids rejected remotely relevant to their post match discussion. It's also completely inappropriate of them given that we've made it clear he's not for sale. I might reply saying something to that effect.

I'd ask them where the balance was

Why wasn't their another pundit presenting the other side of the issue?

isn't the BBC supposed to be unbiased?

Before Stones emerged from the youth ranks and into the first team people were demanding we buy a decent centre half.
Stones i believe will not be sold this season, but what other gems do we have in our youth/reserve ranks waiting to burst onto the scene ?

Stones is staying another year you heard it here first

You mean that assume that we would be better without our best or one of our best players.

It doesn't always work like that. Ask any RS about Suarez and have they improved since he left.
Gonna preface this by saying I love Stones, don't want him sold (ever, preferably, but certainly not this summer) and think he will develop into a truly phenomenal(!) centre half - one of the very best around. I also agree that he is one of our best players currently.

HOWEVER, he is not Luis Suarez. Much as I absolutely despise the man, he was a truly world class player at the height of his game. Stones isn't that (yet?) - but even if he was, the impact of losing a centre back - even a world class one - isn't the same as losing the focal point for every one of your attacks, and someone who contributes 30 goals plus a bucket of assists.

I do understand what you are saying re Suarez but any team that wishes to successful needs that kind of strength all over the pitch - its why Chelsea want him.

I was a kid when Ratcliffe was captaining our team and defence, the other shower had Hansen. They were as fundamental to our/their success as Sharp and co.

Defintely this. Thought it as soon as the Evans (really?!) and Van Dijk links appeared. Despite the fact we are waaaay short back there already, if we got either or other, people would see it as a replacement. Which it wouldn't be.

Everytime we are linked with a centre back the papers tout it as a potential Stones replacement. It's ridiculous.

agreed. We can't replace Stones because he is a unique talent but equally losing a CB, no matter how good has far less impact on our season than losing our strikers or creative players. I do think at times last season a good old fashioned 'if in doubt kick it out' style defender would have prevented many of the silly goals we conceded but that is more down to Martinez and what he want defenders to do with the ball. I'm not suggesting we replace Stones with some hoof ball player. I want to see him stay for many years to come.

Anyone seen Redknapp's comments from Talksport.

Redknapp told talkSPORT: “When you’ve been in the game long enough you know, if a player wants to go, he’s going to go. I would think if the money’s right...

“David De Gea wants to leave Man United – he wants to go but it’s just when a deal can be done that suits everybody – and I think it’s the same with Stones.

“It’s a shame. Everton brought him in and gave him the opportunities, he’s been there 18 months and suddenly he’s off to Chelsea.

"But he’ll be a good signing for Chelsea and he’ll give them good cover and good competition at centre-half.”

The floppy skinned, sweaty [Pick a swear, any swear] can do one.

Looks odds on favourite to me. He'll be the Lescott deal all over again: sold a week before the window shuts and the manager racing around trying to fill holes in a squad that's not half as good as many think it is.

You always look on the bright side dont you!

It would have been a lot brighter as a scenario if it'd have been done weeks ago. Of course, the plan though is to do it as late as possible in order to retain as much of the incoming cash as they can get away with.

Mark my words: the tv cash plus what they siphon away from any Stones sale will disappear (with vague mutterings about cash for January buys and their friends in the media implying that monies are being saved for a new stadium scheme).
