John Stones transfer saga

Not if the money is too good to turn down AND we have a good replacement lined up, which we should have seeing as we've known of Chelsea's interest for weeks and weeks now.

Agreed, but I disagree with what you'd class as too good to turn down. That would be £40m+ in my eyes - and I honestly believe that is the only fee Evertonians would be able to stomach.

I think we do have names lined up (fairly sure Van Dijk will be that name and, if so, he'd be a stunning signing for us), but if we sold Stones we'd have to follow that up with a £20m net spend on top of the Stones fee so that the fans are back onside - reason being that selling Stones and not actively investing in the squad off the back of it would basically signal we have no ambition as a club whatsoever.

clearly then they have decided not to sell and know the money won't be too good to turn down. Some big examples out there for the club on how assets on the pitch are better than in the bank, and for Stones to show Chelsea do not bring on young players the way Everton do

To cash in on a 21 year old is small time.
We do not want to be a feeder club for the likes of Chelsea.
He will be worth more in a year's time
The fans want to watch him. They love him.
It needs to be made clear he's our future captain.

That's the key there mate. We didn't even have replacements lined up for Distin and Alcaraz lined up!

We don't know that yet. Galloway has moved into the first team set up from the off and there's every chance Martinez planned to go with Jagielka and Stones with Galloway as back up until targets opened up as the window closed.

The Stones interest changes things, but if we signed a centre-half now it'd come across as anticipating Stones leaving and sending the wrong message to Chelsea.

Defintely this. Thought it as soon as the Evans (really?!) and Van Dijk links appeared. Despite the fact we are waaaay short back there already, if we got either or other, people would see it as a replacement. Which it wouldn't be.

It would be absolute madness to sell him now. The only justification I can see would be if you believed it was all hype and he wasn't going to progress, so cash in.

I think practically anyone with an interest in football can see he is the real deal. If he progresses and gets time at the euros I expect his value will rocket.

We should be looking to pick up the kinds of players that The mega rich offload. Not sell to them.
If we had managed to do some deal for De Bruyn last year.

Well, we did though, didnt't we? They were bit-part players and the manager sees Browning and Galloway as their replacements, which I am completely fine with. It'd be nice to get one more in though, even if Stones doesn't go... obviously two if Stones goes. But I am completely fine with Jagielka, Stones, the two youngsters and one more, even if it's just a loanee.

Get Glenn Keeley back;)lol

We could easily have deals lined up and not announce them as to keep Chelsea bidding high. As soon as a fee is agreed with Chelsea, Stones is gone.

We'd be stronger without Stones and with three new first XI players, and it's as simple as that.

Under the Kenwright regime, that's the way it is.
