A lone Evertonian, alone no more...

Top work, mate. Jax is a Navy town, and we honor our men in service like few other places. Hope you didn't get sunstroke, those September games can be brutal. Must grab a beer and hydrate early and often.

Sorry our Jags are so dire. How did Jaxson come in? Did he jump off the light tower or one of the massive new video screens (largest in USA!)? He's the best in the NFL.

Mezzrow - All the best to you and your good lady

Give my regards to JAX. Love it Been to Mayport Naval Base many times with the RN.

Will do. Our JAX girls love to see you lot show up when the RN comes into port. Bet you already knew that, though. ;)

Was taught how to lose money at snooker one night out at Pete's Bar at Atlantic Beach by some of your fellows one night back in the 80's. Never play snooker with a British sailor. Well, not with money on the line.

That, my friend, is a good introduction to the world of Everton
However, please don't think things will get easier from here..you haven't been treated to a Hibbert howler on a rainy night
at home to Bolton in the Sherpa Van trophy qualifier, first leg sat in an obstructed view seat with smelly Sid sat next to you howling 90 mins of abuse at Osman whilst spitting chunks of hot pie at you
Now that is the real Everton:)
Got to enjoy Tim's set of howlers against a frumpy and lucky Palace surrounded by dozens hurling abuse at Ossie. It was also a beautiful day on Merseyside. No hot pie chunks, but you can't have it all. Nothing more Everton than combining the bitter and the sweet.

Last night was quite an experience. Let me give you some context. Btw, this is going to go on for a while, so move on if you don't have the time or inclination.

I am from the land of SEC football and folks who are considered knowledgable if they are aware that Chelsea dresses in blue while ManU is kitted out in red. My first life's experience of seeing a match surrounded by evertonians was last night. It was beyond wonderful.

First, from the stewards to the bizzies, to the regular guy in the pub, everyone was just so NICE. Spent the trip on the soccer bus on the way over talking with other arl arses about things Everton and how I came to be where I was and why. Some were amazed to see this guy from Florida who knew who Dixie was, others not so much.

Spent several minutes by Dixie's statue with some stewards helping get the tickets sorted with which box office to go to for what, and actually got sorted out perfectly in an Old School manner in minutes. Walked thru Walton checking out the yout swilling lager in the McDs parking lot, and the seemingly dozens of pubs packed out to the curb (whoops, kerb) with those prepping for the game. A certain WUM gave me a reason to trek to the Thomas for a brew, where I got to see young men doing shots in front of some orange girls while conversing with very dialed in youngsters sporting blue jerseys and football knowledge. It was very comfortable, actually.

Then, back to Goodison, in the turnstile, up the stairs, up the escalator to the aerie of the top balcony, where we were packed in elbow to elbow, toes to bums with folks peering over the edge to our favorite perfect pitch. Hearing Z cars, seeing the intro, hearing the snap of the sound of the Gwladys Street hitting my ears like a well placed left cross, and watching our heroes bury a pretty good Wolfsburg side, we'll... What do you think. How good was it? It was the pure sex, that's what it was. Pointed out Bobby's brown brogues to my love, and heard her say "you know, this is so much better than what we used to get at the Jags games".

Back to the bus/train and back to central city. Crashed in a heap after our unique 36 hours since walking out our door in JAX.

As Joe Jackson once sang back in the day, "it's a big world, with so much to do". Finally, a lone Evertonian was no longer alone.

Wonderful post mate, so pleased for you and your Mrs to have had the experience.

Sometimes we take the usual for granted, experiences like yours offers a fresh perspective on the value of our club and the relationship we each have with it.

mezzrow glad you got a mention at half time .Next time you come mention it to Bill Kenwright at Everton ,I can't
stand him but I'd be surprised if he didn't make you and your Mrs. Welcome at an Everton game, he does like
Evertonians who make big efforts to watch the blues like you have done.Try it .I don't think you will be sorry.

Mezzrow-I've followed this thread from last week and have been touched/pleased/emotional by it. So glad you had a good experience on Thursday with us. I hoped and prayed that you would see a second win against Palace but (everyone on here will get this) that would not be Everton! I'd advise you to walk away from this Everton thing if you can, but I've a feeling you've been chosen so hard luck!!! Enjoy the ride, it can be like nothing you've ever experienced before (Sometimes!)

that feel when I live in New York thousands of miles from Goodison....

that feel when I'm in my early 20's building my career not even ready to finance a trip to Goodison...

that feel if I ever make it to Europe I know where I'm going first..
