He certainly ties in with Martinez wanting a european playmaker who can slot in until the youth player he talked up potentially comes through.

Have you seen much of Payet? What other players would you compare him to?

I'd very much like to see 2 those 3 wingers signed also, potentially all 3 positions covered for 30mil ish minus what we get for mirallas.

Payet is the type of player that we need, so if we are indeed interested then it shows that RM knows what he's looking for. He's comfortable on either wing, or in the middle, but his passing ability is superb.

Payet would be class, 16 assists last season or something ridiculous like that, 7 goals too. He's a bit older than you'd like but I seem to remember Martinez saying that we've got players in the U21's who can play that number 10 role but need a few more years to develop, maybe Dowell or Walsh?

He's exactly what we need though; direct, pacey, creative and skilful.

I only think age and sell on value should only ever come into play when its regarding a player you essentially dont need.

Like, we desperately need a playmaker of his ilk and regardless of age or sell on value id be prepared to pay decent money for the lad because if he can do the business for us then the money we've spent wont even matter.

Marc Bartra's release clause has been reduced at Barca from 50m euros to just 12m euros. The reason being? He didn't play in at least 60% of Barca's competitive matches which was a requirement of his written into his contract. You may remember Barca lost Thiago to Bayern due to a similar fallen clause. Barta is nowhere near Thiago's level, but he is a young ball-playing centre back who would be of value to us...

Seen that link with Negredo but it seems nobody wants him at the moment. He will go out on loan somewhere on deadline day I reckon. Could be a decent loan for someone.

Yeah it's a good point. Much rather spend £10 million on a proven, bit more experienced player who's 28 than a shot in the dark on a 19 year old who might turn out to be brilliant but is a huge risk. Suppose that's how things are at Everton and as I said there's plenty of decent youth that seem to be coming through to get the average age down.

Couldn't see that happening but I'd be ecstatic if it did.

Was it his ability to create attacking chances that put you off? Maybe you are right, and we are better off having the likes of Barry, Besic and McCarthy applying their respective creative abilities in midfield.
Only one of his assists was a through ball type pass and there was acres of space to play it into. He wouldn't get that in the premiership. The rest of his assists were all crosses and set pieces and I'm not sure that's going to help get Rom many goals either because premiership defences aren't easy to score against when all they have to do is head the ball out. He doesn't seem to have the kind of creativity that could help is break down a team that has parked the bus. Have you seen more of him?

It's not a case payet or Barry, McCarthy and Besic is it? I'm sure he's not the only attacking midfielder in world football that we could go for.

I saw Negredo at Valencia against Deportivo last season. He looked unfit and not all that. Still tried to bully people but had lost a bit of that creativity.

Payet is exactly what we need. Somebody with a creative spark who can provide the service that Rom needs. None of this passing side to side in midfield for 90% of the game. His age doesnt bother me, he can come in and do a decent job for 3/4 years.
Have you seen a lot of him?
