Fair point, but shouldn't Roberto look to exploit those sort of markets? His reluctance baffles me in that respect.

I'm totally underwhelmed by the network Martinez has. He'd be more likely to buy from the SPL than La Liga (and van dijk is the only thing worth having from that place).

I tell you what flies off the page in that Martinez inteview: momentum, and specifically his belief in building on early good performances and points racked up. It looks crucial that we get off to a flyer next season, because Roberto has left himself wide open to attack given what he's said about this season being in large part to not getting out the blocks early enough.

It does appear to be about confidence and mood with RM...and that chimes in with the **** or bust type seasons he's been known for.

Which was the reason why all the people who where playing down the fears after pre season and saying it was due to pacing themselves for the season where talking nonsense.

Yes results in pre season don't matter. Looking unfit and not ready mattered hugely. I'm glad Barkley isn't going to the U21s now. We need to have the 1st team (not squad players) firing in pre season to get the fitness and balance right for the start. Personally last years good season all came from the competition in the US where we went toe to toe with Europe's elite.

We need more of that, not games against minnows.

Our football this season has been terrible and far from the positive flowing football we saw in Martinez's first season. He needs to bring in the right players who are able to play a positive style.

He needs to bring in technically good players that can receive the ball in tight spaces played in at speed. The problem with us this season has been too much of the likes of Naismith and McGeady.

A chance we made against Spurs that I saw on the highlights was when Barkley pinged it into Osman in the box who controlled it instantly with a couple of players close to him who then played in Coleman.

That's the kind of football we should be playing but you need the players. He keeps talking about getting them playing at a higher passing tempo, always shouting quicker quicker on the touch line but what does he expect when he buys run-a-rounders.

Even Lennon who was good is too much a run-a-rounder for my liking.

In fairness injuries devastated us early on in the season but weren't a huge factor after January. I think it has been overused as an excuse.

Fitness on the other hand. I totally agree.

Mate we all no he Carnt do a job he will be injured again after a couple of games along with Gibson and a few others then they will be passengers for the rest of the season with a squad like ares we cannot afford this.

Gibson - We had just bough Besic and had McCarthy and Barry. Fair enough.
Pienaar - Who was getting on and not at his best last year anyway. Terrible decision not to find a replacement. Even worse to compound it and not get someone in January when we still had the Europa League to play for.

Barry for me it was one season too much from his last very good performances to gain a three year contract was a joke!
Now we have to off load him!
