He doesn't deserve it that's why.

The conceit that we sack a manager because we fall out of the top half of the table. Unreal.

We are not a club that earns the right to hire and fire because we dont back managers.

I'd say the right tone to strike is that we know he can provide excellent football and 21 wins in a season. So lets see how far back to that standard he gets next season.

Or we could go and get that Klopp or Capello in, because they'll defo do a brilliant job with a net spend of £17M over two seasons.
Pretty sure I read Klopp had a net of 10 million euros over his first five

Well done on having a poll that has several reasonable options @Woolly Blue unlike the stark In or Out/All or Nothing polls just after we have had a bad result, which do not give a true reflection of the way fans are really feeling about this issue. Abstained in all of them.

As @Khalekan said though you really needed to have an option for early in the season, because on the evidence of recent performances that is just about how long many people's patience will last, mine included. So alas I'll have to abstain again. lol

"unimportant game"

It was important enough for 39,000 people to take the trouble of leaving their homes to go watch.

The contempt with which the matchgoing public is held in by your good self is risible.

And it's not like yesterday was a one off.

This season has been littered with performances like that.

Yesterday was no more or less passionless than the games against Swansea, Hull, Stoke, Burnley and my own particular nadir, Baggies.....all of which very definitely would have fitted your criteria as "important" games.

I hope.

Yesterday was not good enough Dave.

Not because of the result but because of the listless performance on the pitch and the clueless performance from the dugout.

Most worryingly it was not an atypical Everton home performance thus season.....far from it.

There were more matches like that than there were not.
It has to change. We'll see.

I tell you what flies off the page in that Martinez inteview: momentum, and specifically his belief in building on early good performances and points racked up. It looks crucial that we get off to a flyer next season, because Roberto has left himself wide open to attack given what he's said about this season being in large part to not getting out the blocks early enough.

It does appear to be about confidence and mood with RM...and that chimes in with the **** or bust type seasons he's been known for.

Maybe, but the market they were buying in back then was eastern European and middle east, and he didn't work for some daft as a brush English league club who all the football agents in the world take the absolute piss out of.

He can help himself by avoiding Wigan type signings.

He's at Everton now.

My view stays the same

If we sack him, whoever we get is a gamble as we are not a club that has vast amounts of riches to rebuild ever time we change managers.
As with Moyes give the man a chance, if people are expecting top 4 finishes and silverware each year...time to rethink who you want to support.

Are best chance is to give the manager time to build and then we may have a slim chance of top 4

As ever people calling for his head are the people who never wanted him

In bold - this type of thinking shows everything that's wrong with our fan base at the moment.

Why can't we expect to win a trophy? I hate this plucky Everton tag Moyes labelled us with. Punching above our weight etc.

I grew up with us winning trophies. Historically, we are a massive club with a great tradition. Not having a rich owner means we deffo won't win the title, and may have to settle for 5th place at best for now, but it doesn't automatically disqualify us from winning a cup or challenging for top 4

Fair point, but shouldn't Roberto look to exploit those sort of markets? His reluctance baffles me in that respect.

Winning a trophy like FA Cup, League Cup or Europa League is not something you can set as a requirement. One bad day at the office and you're out.

People say give the manager time in terms of league positions as like when Moyes arrived, he's trying to build a team. I imagine we'll take both cups more seriously next season, and I want nothing more than to see Everton win a trophy but to set winning one as a minimum requirement for the job is daft.

Picked 'give him until christmas.' This is on the generous side for me though. As much as I would love to say he's had one good season, one bad season- give him another, the fact is he has made not one telling change all season. As early as October we all knew that we were too pedestrian and had a vulnerable defence to boot. That has not been adjusted at all. Not sure I'm that confident in the Summer he has in store for us with him saying one or two players are needed. More than that I'm afraid. I don't think the board will be rushing to sack him though. What's the betting we'll have yet another season of two halves and this debate will be had again next Summer?

I'm not talking about us having an unrealistic requirement that Martinez must win a trophy...or else. I'm referring to our fan base in general, who seem to have adopted the 'plucky Everton' theme that Moyes pedalled for too long. Looks like he's kidded a large proportion of our fans in thinking we're not good enough!

I'll be glad to see the back of him.

Tottenham played exactly how I imagined Everton would under Martinez - fast, incisive passing, intelligent movement and relentless pressing off the ball. What we get is lazy, unimaginative and negative football masquerading as something continental. It takes more than an adherence to over head height rules to be Barcelona.

Obviously he won't be going anytime soon, so I just hope he doesn't do too much damage in the upcoming transfer windows. Instead of gutting the squad of the self-styled 'legends' that have been taking the piss for years, I fully expect him to bring in more uninspiring British plodders and dole out another load of bumper contracts to the Best Friends Gang.

Also, it didn't take long for him to hop into bed with the board. Another dope who'll be at pains to tell us how the squad doesn't need reinforcing while he's picking players that wouldn't get a sniff at Stoke or West Ham.

Out now pure and simple. I think we have a good squad, a squad better than we have played this season, might need a few additions but my worry is losing players who might of had enough of his nonsense football. Time to go.

We have been awful for 15 months, its not a blip, we cant blame the board, yes some players badly let us down but he did nothing to help put things right, at one stage even the players were coming out saying we need to play more direct football, as if we let ourselves get into such a state that the players are having to come out sad say these things.

Next season, we go again, and i am already not looking forward to it.

15 months?

Definitely a big summer for martinez with what players he brings in and which ones are let go, I don't trust the board to spend as much money as is needed to get us back at least to the top 7 so hopefully he's had the scouting team looking for some bargains if that is the case.
