he schooled van gaal today, must be said. got the tactics spot on and that included osman playing over mirallas. everyone under the sun knows mirallas is a better player but we set up to defend deep and play on the counter, does anyone think mirallas would have marked valencia like osman did? course not.

he's learned from his mistakes of earlier in the season it seems and our defensive record lately has been great. he's still let's not forget, same as how we can excuse poor performances from youngsters. i still believe the players have let him down badly as well as it being his fault. i mean barry again dallied on the ball and fellaini should have tucked home for 1-1. can hardly blame martinez for setting up the right game plan and someone does that.

Last 6 games: scored 10 and conceded 2.

Excellent.

I think the energy levels are there again to close down and pick up. With no EL next season I EXPECT this level of defensive solidity again.

I thought we'd discussed polls Chico ? Plainly you took no notice. *shakes fist
Err, I voted In, so at least I've been consistent.

You can still swerve the vote (or not) and kiss him with that sweet sweet hammer. One of those "how do you get the mule to listen" things.

Not that I would interfere in important GOT business, mind you. Oh, and Bobby stays. For now.

Yeah but that would suggest United at home was easier,it's not and I thought a rigid disciplined display was spot on rather than a pressure is off display

It was a very good win, there is no denying that. The pressure on us is unquestionably off though.

They were the ones that needed the points. No Blues would have been surprised with a draw or even a narrow loss today.

What a ridiculous poll.

Today's result doesn't mean he's the right man for the job long term, but sacking him after we beat Manu 3-0 would just be stupid.

He's dealt with a difficult situation (although a lot of it was of his own making) extremely well and came out of it with flying colours.

He's probably learnt a lot and we've learnt a lot about him.

The last few weeks haves been solid in terms of form that's for sure. I am still not convinced, but I wasn't when he joined. It was the same with Moyes, took a long time for me to join his revolution. Hoping ol' brown brogues will win me round sooner or later.

Btw I still rate Osman so what do I know.

The way i'm looking at it now is that he's had one good season and one bad. Make or break for him next year and without Europe i really think we should be seriously challenging for top 4, if we are as poor next season as we have beem this this one then maybe it should be time to go.

I'll probably just thread ban him as he's going into full wind up mode, though, looking at what I've missed, it's possible I may be too late.

Agree with you on "for now". Too much has gone wrong this season for Martinez to have my unswerving support. He's earned himself another go next season, but needs to show he's learnt from his mistakes. The last six or so games suggests he has learnt a bit, but it's a big test next season now.

Happy to keep him at the club but with no UEFA cup next season I expect us to really push for the domestic cups - BOTH OF THEM!!
This club needs success and trophies = success.

If he can build on this upturn and if he can strengthen in the window (i.e. sign a playmaker, keep Kev) then he has my backing.

He's allowed a bad season if he learns from it and long term, becomes a better manager. My worry was that it took him 25+ games to change anything. And in our biggest game of the season (Kiev) we reverted to type and played like we were playing in December.

That will be forgiven if it can be forgotten. And the way to do that is to get rid of what hasn't worked, and build on what makes us a good team. I.e. when we're moving the ball quickly, playing with aggression and not playing gash-tennis between our two CBs.
