Huge summer for the bloke. Mirallas new deal, Lennon in, and 3 or 4 other solid/exciting signings, and then he has my support. We've started playing once our season is effectively over, and if he gives the lads a proper pre season and we start next season as we've ended this one then absolutely, has to stay.

Last 6 games: scored 10 and conceded 2.

Excellent.

I think the energy levels are there again to close down and pick up. With no EL next season I EXPECT this level of defensive solidity again.

Now he's finally worked out we can play different types of football, I'm prepared to give him another season as we won't be in Europe either, hopefully we can put a cup run together and end the twenty years drought, as this seasons cup efforts were shocking

Played the exact same style of football against them at Goodison last year, different shape but same intent to move the ball forward quickly, defend deep in our own half, and press in the opposition half.

It's nice that he turned up in the second half of the season.

Still not a leader, though. And we still need a better CB than him to partner Stones.

Step forward Virgil Van Dijk.

Martinez has only showed up second half of the season but I guess that's ok.

Let me ask you a question: whats the point of hoping for a good year next year if we are thankful we arent going to be in Europe next season? Is Europe NOT the aim of the entire team? And, if they do well again next year and qualify for Europe, should we expect that season to be a throwaway as well?

I just dont get the point of 'well we wont have to deal with Europe next year, so thats a bonus'. If we are going to be utter garbage in the league when we qualify for Europe and we are thankful for not qualifying for Europe the following year, whats the point of trying to qualify for Europe?

I'm probably verging on the yes vote, yet this season has brought up a fair few questions and concerns which are still a worry.

Since our departure from Europe we've been significantly better, but are we likely to expect a similar campaign if we get into Europe again soon?

A sensible pre-season, unlike the shambles last year, and a few suitable additions and departures from the squad wouldn't go a miss.
