I'm dreading the damage he will do during the summer transfer window, only for him to be sacked in December. I'm also worried about the effect that Martinez' disastrous appointment has had on the expectation levels at Everton, apparently it's now alright to be languishing in the bottom half of the table, just as long we don't get relegated. He has set us back years, and I wonder just how far we will regress before he finally gets given the boot.

It's sound, another 7/8 points and it's all good

Just been on the Everton facebook page and reading the comments, very surprised how many people want him out I thought it was just some on here like myself, his probably lost the dressing room the way most players can't be arsed and now the fans.

All I'm seeing here is a failure to hold nerve by some (I'm not talking about the usual suspects who have been on Martinez's back since day one, btw, I'm addressing the genuinely open minded but concerned).

The reality is we have to pick up another, say, 7/8 points and that's safety sorted out. Right now we have a 6 point cushion and much better GD if it came down to it (which it wont).

You have to ask yourself whether the doom mongers have spooked you into edging toward deserting Martinez, who has a lot of good ideas and is in the early part of his career with us. We know he can achieve...not only last season with us but with other clubs where he's won them a trophy in the case of Wigan and built one up from the foundations with Swansea. This isn't an unproven man. He's got a lot of talent and I think people who are becoming edgy are caught on the horns of a dilemma of sticking with him now when he needs our support or taking off in a panic and preferring a caretaker to come in and see if that bumps us a few extra points. In reality there's no real choice to be had, because we stand a very good chance of staying up even if we continue to perform only sporadically in the last 11 games.

Stand fast by your manager's side; take the bad times along with the good and we can look forward to better times. Dont let the scaremongers boot a very good manger out the door and send us back to the dark ages with a 'pragmatic' replacement.

Hear Hear!

Totally agree

So very much this.
Away defeat at Emirates and that breaks the camels back....for so many.

Everybody should just calm the *** down.

It's nothing to do with defeats anymore, it's the football on the pitch. The lack of urgency and ideas; it's pitiful and embarrassing to watch.

Play like last season but in the same position with the same results and nobody would be arsed; it's just one of those things.

The fact that his team as taken a complete 180 is concerning everyone, and he cannot address it

But we haven't lost many games recently.

In our last eleven games - including games against Liverpool and Manchester City - we've only lost twice.

It isn't too shocking that those were the games at Chelsea and Arsenal.

Sadly footballs about winning and 2 wins in 19 and playing very boring football isn't very nice.

And I understand that too. It's disappointing, especially since we played them off the pitch last season.

I would say that plenty of Everton managers have failed at Arsenal. We haven't won there since 1996 - when goals from Graham Stewart and Andrei Kanchelskis secured a win. At least Roberto sent them out to make life difficult for Arsenal. And Besic isn't just a destructive player. He can contribute going forwards too.

Also, we are in a run of 5 games in 14 days - it is stretching our resources. Our position is certainly disappointing, but I think we should be patient. Even our next run of games isn't going to be easy - and our patience may be tested further.

You won't find an arsenal fan in the ground who didn't think that was the easiest win they had over us for some time.

All their blogs are noting how we were unusually placid and unthreatening for us. Which we were, we didn't press them or put their defense under pressure at all.

We didn't play badly by any means but we didn't make things difficult.

I must admit, I'm losing faith in his methods.

Everton look like a Tony Mowbray side, trying to outplay the opposition with a team full of limited footballers.

@davek - It's not a personnel issue at all, it's a managerial issue. We all collectively said at the start of the season, that this was probably the best squad that we'd had since the 80's ffs.

If what you're saying there is correct and last season was only a halfway house in terms of his 'style' between the Moyes era and what his ultimate 'philosophy' is, then it's patently obvious that his end goal isn't a pot of Gold, it's a crock of [Poor language removed]. As this season, we've been one paced, predictable and defensively disorganised.

A managers job is to get the best from what he at his disposal. If you're saying that these lads aren't good enough to play his 'style' then quite simply he should be adjusting his 'style' to best suit the personnel, UNTIL such times that he can change it over time. The mere fact that he hasn't makes him an egotist.

It is a mystery why this 180 has happened. Some think it's Martinez being unable to fix it. I dont believe that.

We could go to play long ball, although in some games we have played more direct. Having said that, in all honesty I don't think you could say that "tippa tappy" Caused the defeat at Arsenal. We missed decent opportunities and we are very susceptible to losing goals off set pieces (something he hasn't addressed all season).

Yesterday we played with 3 Defensive midfielders and Barkley in the false. It didn't work, but we hadn't tried it before.

I think our biggest problem yesterday was we seem to lack pace and creativity in the final third.
We have lacked pace and creativity all season mate and the manager will not address it.

Good post. I have to say, I'm beginning to doubt his capacity to make big calls, a fear that would be assuaged if he would just make one. Every week he selects a 3 man midfield and refuses to drop either Howard or Barry, making it increasingly hard to support him. The problem is he's being distinctly un-Martinez and resorting to a cautious system that I don't associate with him.

That being said, we're not going to be relegated and I very much want to see him here next season. If we won the Europa League, and we're well capable of beating any of the remaining teams, none of this will matter. I don't think supporting your manager and questioning some of his calls are mutually exclusive. Even ardent Martinez fans can see he has blind spots.

That's is job though; he's paid to fix it, no matter what it the issue is. Under performing players, drop them; players not good enough, sell them...and so on. He's not fulfilling any of the tasks of a manager

The entire point of his employment is to manage

I disagree, Martinez just will not alter the tactics that see not losing many, lately, but at the same time not looking
like we are capable of winning any. I have stood by Martinez for most of the season, dropping Robles for an out of form
Howard started my turn against the manager and the fact that you know what way he will have the team playing in
the league games means that every manager in the game knows how to set up against us as well.

The Europa Cup means nothing to me and that has been a big factor in the way Martinez has set Everton up this
season, he has put all his eggs in one basket and it will have a baring on whether we stay up or go down.

Each entitled to our opinions mate, ;)
