Tim Howard

Even the fans were taking confidence from the way Joel was commanding the area.

People round me were going mad at Howard after the second goal yesterday.

But I wasn't.

I exoect that from him.....it was Martinez I was fuming at for playing Howard.

I agree wholeheartedly. We had drawn the derby and you could feel we were "turning a corner" as we looked hard to beat defensively. I look at us now and again I have no face in us not to concede goals.

It's clear Howard has lost some of his agility, this isn't a one off mistake on commanding his box it is a structural flaw which at Howards age I doubt he is going to correct. You are right that he is also putting everyone watching him on edge.

His attempt to collect a corner in the last minute was awful and we could have been punished again. At every level putting Howard back in, when the other goalkeeper has kept 3 clean sheets is bewildering. And the mistakes Howard is making are very basic, he can't seem to take crosses into the box 3 yards out.

Amazing that Robles has turned our opinion around so much on him eh.

I though Robles was an absolute turkey but a few decent performances and everyone wants him as number one- fair play to the lad.
He kept three clean sheets, and the defence looked comfortable with him commanding his area - T H our alledged No 1 which Prem team would he get in at this moment in time answers on the back of a postage stamp please!

he wouldnt get in any. its not just one thing hes bad at now. kicking - crap, punching - crap, shotstopping - crap, crosses - crap, communication - crap.

Yeah, that's the problem. I remember Crystal Palace laying siege to our box, but Robles was leaping out, catching things, punching things and knew where he was and what he was doing at all times. Simple things like, but simple errors from stalwarts like Howard have us in this mess. There wasn't much wrong with our general play in the second half, but if Tim had not made mistakes that most people wouldn't make playing Wednesday astro, we would have won easily. And he's making those mistakes with incredible regularity. We're not even talking about the two other times he punched the ball to a Leicester player because they fluffed their lines, but he could have easily conceded two more goals.

According to Martinez in The Echo, Tim is one of our leaders.

I can only imagine he means leader in the General Custer was a leader sense.

I was a fence sitter till this error of judgement & poor man management from R M. Have little faith in him now.

To be honest since that moment, for me, Martinez is done.

How can we possibly back him after that illogical decision making?

We have to mate though I know what you mean. I've backed Martinez to the hilt, certainly more than the players, but him bringing Howard back really has tested my patience and it could ( as it stands it is ) backfire on him spectacularly.

Also, it's not just about the 3 clean sheets Robles had, he played 8 games and game on game he grew in confidence and stature. The 3 clean sheets were just a culmination of him finding his feet and form. Really was a criminal decision to bring Howard back who was in poor form pre injury. I'm expecting the same though, he will stick with Howard to help him find his form ( he done it against Swansea away in the cup when he should have been dropped and he was crap that game as well ) as him dropping him for Joel will be an admission that he has dropped an absolute bollock

He may be a leader. Being a leader doesn't mean you are in good form and deserve to be starting, however.

Perfectly happy for him to lead from the bench for the rest of the season and from Nantucket or wherever next season. As with Captain Pip, players seem to get edgey when the person egging them on is performing like a seal with cataracts.
