Tim Howard

Because those players are good and have been playing well. Howard though?

Exactly.

If Howard had been having a good season re-instating him immediately might have made sense.

But be had been playing badly anyway and his place in the team should have been under scrutiny before his injury.

I was on here Friday hoping that Tim would have a strong finish to the season. (some hope) back to the drawing board.

I guess Tim's lack of form is one of the biggest problems the team face at the minute if not the biggest, if the manager fails to act will the calls for his head be justified ? Bad news is our fragility in defence on sunday will be probably be seen by Martinez as a result of Gaz Baz being out.(holds head).

The two goals yesterday were down to Taliban Tim and lets not forget he almost gave them another at the death.
in fact his whole game was full of minor errors of judgement, while his distribution was terrible.
If RM perseveres, he his a coward nothing less, goalkeeping is a critical position.
I have been thinking back and I cannot recall any champion side not having a great or at least a very , very good keeper.
Howard still makes the same errors has he did when Sir Alex flushed him.
Hers a question out of the other current first choice keepers, are any of them consistently worse than Taliban Tim ?

Hopefully and he should keep his place against Arsenal. Re-calling Howard just as Joel was settling and had kept 3 clean sheets is up there with RM's biggest mistakes this season and there have been a few.

I would have kept Joel in too but I dont see it to be huge mistake. Beards is ok...for example against Chelsea he was brilliant. Want him gone in the summer, though

His 3 clean sheet streak was unremarkable to me. He faced 9 shots on frame, 6 of them from the [Poor language removed](so 3 total against CP & WBA) and, and was beaten badly once (@CP) and had it saved behind him. Also Ibe had him beat in that game too. Before that in his other fill in duty he played pretty average.

Which is not to defend Timmay. Howard made chances for LC yesterday that would not have needed stopped had he not been on, but the "Robles on fire" narrative is a false one.

He pulled of a couple of worldies against west ham, The ibe shot wouldve beaten any keeper in the league.

And though he wasnt making hundreds of stops it was his command of his area that impressed, actually coming out and collecting things, good distribution, he calmed the lads in front of him.

No he was not he made routine saves, and there winner was at Howard s weakest point, low left hand side, the number of errors on his left hand side his freighting.
Four aspects of the game that a keeper must have.
Command his area
Catch a high ball
Ability to distribute the ball
Make routine saves and the added ability to make match saving saves, only the good ones have this in combination with the good attributes
In my view Howard falls short.

Taking into consideration Howard's form before his injury and the amount of points he has cost us due to errors of his own making the 3 clean sheets by Robles was enough to warrant keeping his place.

I'm not saying Joel has become a worldie all of a sudden but he was certainly showing signs of growing confidence and Howard hasn't kept back to back clean sheets all year so it's not to be sniffed at.

Absolutely this, our defenders are terrified when Howard is behind them, you can clearly see it. Because he's an absolute trumpet and a mince goalkeeper

Haha, the phrase "clutching at straws" comes to mind. How many points does Howard have to cost us before the star spangled specs you are looking through come off?
