This forum is asleep for the whole day. I was bored beyond belief (ask Azzbot:D), been away for less than 2 hours and now GOT is in meltdown over a supposed takeover, that may involve the most beautiful club in the world. Oh man, do I have a habit of missing the action.

This is the actual statement from WAM

Ahmed acquires 60% of a leading English football club

WAM Ras Al Khaimah, 21st June 2009 (WAM) -- Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Customs and Seaports, has acquired 60 per cent of a leading English club of premier league Sheikh Ahmed will be the honorary chairman of the club.

More details about the deal will be announced at a press conference to be held within the few coming days.

I think the clue is in the press release. Three points.

1. They are only acquiring 60% not the whole club
2, Sheikh Ahmed will be the chair.
3. Leading prem club

Both strongly suggest to me the rs. They appear to have partly re-financed their debt, and this could be additional inward investment.

They current have no chair - could this person be taking over from Parry?

Leading is a subjective term, but it does sugget top 10 rather than bottom 10 or new arrivals. Given someone else's list of prem clubs, if its not the rs (which is where my money is on), then it has to be us, but the 60% suggest that it can't be us, its too odd a number and suggest additional investment not a takeover.

Premier League UAE investor report | Setanta

An unnamed Premier League club has been bought by a member of the ruling family in the United Arab Emirates, the WAM news agency claimed on Sunday.

The report claims that Sheikh Ahmed bin Saqr al-Qassimi has bought a 60 percent share in a top-flight club and that the details of the deal will be announced officially in the coming days.

Sheikh Ahmed, the report goes on to state, will be made honorary chairman of the club once the takeover is complete.

If true, the unnamed Premier League club would become the second English side to be Middle East owned after Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour purchased Manchester City.

Another Abu Dhabi investor, Sulaiman al-Fahim, who was instrumental in the takeover of Manchester City, has also launched a bid to buy Portsmouth.

Hmm

Done Deal supposedly.

Well it was more speculation then confirming mate, two things makes me think its us, 1. Moyesy returns from hols on Tues - press conference in the next few days, 2. Peter Storrie said that Pompeys takeover would take a month due to due dilligence, in which time no other buissness can take place!

First of all, think you're spot on with your assesment and it will most probably the RS. If it us, I guess Bill Kenwright finall got what he wished for. Investment not a complete takeover. Wouldn't mind it one bit, if he kept his interest in Everton. That way we can be sure David Moyes will be protected from bussisnessman looking for a quick fix. We don't need hundred of millions to break into the top four, but we do need Moyes.
