There's way more pressure in this job. Swansea and Wigan wouldn't and couldn't have prepared him for it. He's come under scrutiny like never before.

I think he's been uncomfortable with that. He's been taken out of his comfort zone this season. But that's an experience I'm sure he'll take stock of and learn from.

We have a very smart manager, and though I see what's happened this season as a pain in the arse we could have done without, it could be very useful to him (and us) in the near future.

I see the point your making Dave and kind of agree but....

What happens next season then Dave. If tactics, signings and ultimately performances and league form is simlar to this season? Is that more learning time? Do you stick with him?

Personally feel if he doesn't learn from this season, and next is simlar he has to be replaced come january time ish.

I've never said I'd back Martinez if he's proving to be a long term liability. If we're not shaping up and getting back to the sort of displays we saw in season one next season then we'll know that he's struggling here to get the right blend to play his way of playing. That's no good for either party and he'd be on his way.

My point this season is that the bedwetters have been out in force very early...laughably early...demanding drastic action. That is mad beyond belief and it needed to be highlighted just how mad they are/were.

Yeah, this.

I've said from day one that if martinez can't get us playing again he needs to go but you have to give him a chance to turn it around first.

November next year was when I think you admit it isn't working but now is far too early.

You only get rid during this year if you think bobby would take us down, which would be devastating for the club, if you don't change. And I think we can all agree that was never a serious possibilty.

The fact that the op doesn't even want change until the summer kind of underlines the insanity of it. What if we win every game from now until then? We finish comfortably high up the table, win our first trophy in 20 years and qualify for the Cl? That would be our best season since Kendall left the first time and it's still possible if not likely. So what do we do if that happens, still sack him then?

You have to see how things go instead of panicing, this might all be just a blip and we'd be back to hammering teams come march.

Still don't buy it Dave. Take note.

Harry Catterick started management at Sheffield Wednesday in 1958 his first job. Moved to Everton in 1961, 3 years gap!

Howard Kendall started as plyer manager at Blackburn Rovers in 1979. Moved to Everton as player manager in 1981, 2 year gap, became full time manager in 1984.

No where near as long as RM before managing Everton in both cases.

Wait until November and then look for a new manager, who if he wanted to change the squad would have to wait until January, if the club has any money left after RM has splashed it all in summer 2015, don't make me laugh.

Assuming that Martinez doesn't turn it around from now until then.

My assumption is that he would which is why you give him time.

Pretty much agree with all of this.

We could bin Martinez and give the job to someone else who'd need time to bed in his own ideas, or we give Martinez the benefit of the doubt, write this season off as a bad job and see if we get an improvement next season. If there are no signs of improvement next season then that's the time to change things at the the top, otherwise we'll end up on a manager merry go round.

All other things being equal, I'd give Martinez till May 2016 to show he's on the ball with the job.
