Lukaku was injured for 4 weeks, in the time he was injured we suffered 2 1-0 defeats in games we should and could have won if we had just had an actual striker leading the line, it was a turning point and it cost us a CL place.
He did move for one and got him. The feller tweaked his injury again though. That's not the same as ignoring the need for a player or being easily fobbed off by the board...something ginger bollocks did on many an occasion in January.

As I say, for me, it was a warning sign and I expressed it as such last January.

You won't get me saying anything bad about a manager who has nurtured, and seen blossom, the talent that is Steven Naismith. That Roberto also managed to get Naisy to extend his contract here at EFC for a further 3 years, doubtless in the face of many competing bids for his signature by the so-called 'elite' clubs, speaks volumes about the man. His convincing club legends, Ozzie and Hibbo, to also extend (again, fending off what I imagine was furious competition), was just the icing on the cake.

Don't forget gareth barrys 6 year contract

He's still a young man Martinez, who is to say this season, although disappointing(with many mitigating circumstances)but hardly disastrous in the grand scheme, will not be a part of a learning curve that anyone in any job can go through and come out the other side a better man for the job?Have a little patience as old Barlow(Gary not Ken;))would say.:)

Hold on he has been in management for how many years, have you counted and he needs experience, utter tosh.

It's his first time at managing a club of this stature.

Rubbish, take into account how long he has been in Football not just as a manager, and you are saying this is his first real job! As he would say Incredible! He has been in management for 7 years after which surely he can tell good players from bad, understand what tactics win games, understand the transfer market, understand subbing, team selection, training, fitness.
In what way is that different from other clubs?

There's way more pressure in this job. Swansea and Wigan wouldn't and couldn't have prepared him for it. He's come under scrutiny like never before.

I think he's been uncomfortable with that. He's been taken out of his comfort zone this season. But that's an experience I'm sure he'll take stock of and learn from.

We have a very smart manager, and though I see what's happened this season as a pain in the arse we could have done without, it could be very useful to him (and us) in the near future.
