Everton's top scorers since 2000, putting Lukaku's performance in proper context

Look at the stats and he's the youngest striker there? He's great and is only going to improve. Unlikely, but I hope he stays with us for a very long time.

Had an off day today and scored the winner. Will take that all week long if it's nabbing us 3 points. Couldn't give a flying one if it bobbles in off his arse, all about being in the right place. What I like about his goals record is that it's not like a Cottee goalscoring record of no goals in 6 games then a double, another goals and then 8 games without a goal. It's single goals ( i think he's only scored a double once against Newcastle at home last season? ). I remember Royle talking about Rideout doing similar the season we stayed up and won the cup. The single goals were winning us 3 points or getting us a draw. Don't get me wrong I would love him to score hatricks galore but if you score around 16 a season that's nearly a goal every other game.
Liverpool at home aswell. But yeah, great point and I've noticed that too. He wins us points.

Bloody hell cheers mate, totally forgot about that and it was a quality double as well considering he's crap in the air that was a bloody good header he scored! When he's bang on it ( Lille home, Wolfsburg away, City at home ) he is as good as anyone out there. He's inconsistent because he's just a kid but he compensates that by still sticking the ball in the net. I k ow if I was a player for Everton I would want a one on one or past minute chance to fall to him because he will back himself to slot. Need a big performance from him next week and hopefully he will deliver ;)

People get hung up about how much we paid for him.

Well, back in 2006 we paid ~8.5 million for AJ.
Given the rise in transfer fees over the last nine years I wouldn't be at all surprised if that 8.5 million had more than tripled in that time.

Oh, we paid 6 million in 2005 for James Beattie. James Beattie ffs.
% of income it's about the same as Yakubu. It's about right for a club our size to spend on our top striker.

We missed a trick with the likes of Eriksen and sigurdsson going for sensible fees, pienaers the closest thing we have to a playmaker but hes always broken

Sigurdsson would have been a cracking signing. Not saying I wouldn't take Eriksen but at the time I doubt it we would have been in for him. But Sigurdsson we should have been in like a [Poor language removed] when Spuds decided to get rid.

A lot of the time his first touch is a goal. Given the right service this lad would be on 15/20 or so by now. Couldn't give a monkeys as long as he tries hard and scores goals. All we can ask for.

He's a top quality goalscorer, has a superb record for any player but even more so for one so young (even though he's probably one of the more experienced 21 year olds you're gonna find).

But i really can't understand how people can miss the completly bleeding obvious point that if the rest of his game (you know, important things for a lone striker like hold up play, passing and controlling a football) was better, we'd more than likely score more goals from other players benefitting from that thus being higher up the table.
