It is of concern though, that we have 'turned a corner' but are still the worst form team in the league.
I think the City game is about the level we were a couple of years ago, we are a shadow of it at the moment.
I still blame the pre season, we never recovered from it, and I still think next season will be a massive improvement. But I may just be being a bit kopite there.

When all is said and done, that's what counts, yes. Which is why there was so much riding on that penalty that Mirallas missed.

Imo, we get a win in the next tree games and the balloon is popped.

Just a couple of weeks ago we were 11 pts off the bottom and, I think, 6 off the bottom 3. Now we are 5pts and 4pts off respectively. We were sat in 13th those few weeks ago, same as now. What a relief that the likelihood of our being relegated is no greater now despite our run of defeats. I can sleep easily now.

Glad to help.

I don't get this turning the corner talk. How have we turned a corner?

We still arent winning games, including 2 teams that we have already beaten this season. In fact if we hadn't beat them at the start we would already be in the bottom 3. So after what 14 games we are struggling to beat them, as well as the long list of others then it is relegation form. Over a third of the seasons worth of games and we havent won one of them. That is massively worrying and not something i can take any consolidation in just because we played better.

I want us to win and we HAVE to beat palace and liverpool to even look like we have turned a corner. less than 6 points and a loss against chelsea and we are almost right back to where we are now with some false hope built up.

Moyes almost went down with a relegation dodging squad, martinez is doing it with one that qualifies for europe regulary.

The points vs position argument really is utterly ridiculous

Your league placing only truly matters on the last day of the season.

Your points tally is what's important as the season progresses. You know with relative certainty that if you attain 40 points then your PL status is secured. Hence the reason many managers start the season with this as their goal.

Who's currently sat below us is largely irrelevant, as we know that we'll have to get 35-36 points as an absolute minimum to stay up. If you're confident that we'll manage that then fair enough, but don't try and make out that the current tally of 23 is somehow irrelevant as there's 8 sides beneath us today.

We were playing middling, then terribly, now middling again.

That's a good sign.
As far as i am concerned we will go down if we keep not winning games.

There worrying this is unless it changes, we havent even got any game changers on the bench anymore. And if we do they are into their 30s and half a yard slower than they were before.

There is no minimum points total needed.

You need to be less bad than 3 other teams to stay up. Right now we're less bad than 8. We just need to keep up that form to stay up, not get better than this terrible form but keep it up.

We'll be fine.

I don't get that people haven't seen us get a bit better last 4 games. Even the West Brom game we were all over them (despite never looking like getting a bloody goal!).

I'm very negative about all things Everton at the minute, but don't get why people can't see we are better than before.

Baffling.

Our issues lie well beyond our best player missing a pen. But yeah, we only need a good win and we are all singing his praises..

What we really need is a Moyes style second half of the season.
