Tim Howard

Talk about a rapid decline. Defense has played their role this year, but not that much...

"Through the day after Christmas, 45 percent of all the shots on goal Howard faced ended up in the back of the net. Last year that number was only 25.8 percent, third-best in the league."

His form last year was what gave me hope that he'd turn it around, but yikes that first statement is horrible. I still have faith, but it hangs by a thread at this point. If he's not back to a top level after his return, time to move on this summer I think.

Would prefer it to be the latter but I think we'll likely keep him around. Even if we do sign a new goalie this window, Howard will likely be our cup/Europe goalie for a few more years yet I think. Would prefer if we just sent him back to the US to be honest.

I don't think he would be content to just warm the bench (a la Brad Friedel) in the twilight of his career. He would try to generate an MLS move over being a backup at Everton.

I don't know. I know everyone keeps throwing out the MLS, he's getting old AND he's american, so I get the logical connection.

However I read an article where he said he had no plans to come back to the MLS; he bleeds blue and expected to retire professionally an Everton player.

Now his current form may take that decision out of his hands, but the MLS was definitely NOT part of his career plan 6 months ago.

Not good enough, never was. His crowing glory for me was the 2009 cup final v Chelsea, so easily beat for Lampard's winner it was untrue. Looked a good goal but actually it was bad goalkeeping. For all his good moments you could easily find a mistake that lead to a goal and that's a bad ratio to have. RM wants everyone to be comfortable with the ball at their feet and that starts with the goalie, we can't expect to fully implement what the manager wants with a goalie who poos his pants with the ball at his feet and has the distribution of a drunk man. The world cup went to his head big time and that's ultimately the problem with him this season. He's past it and shouldn't be kept on just cos he's got a cool beard and occasionally saves a penalty

I don't get the hate here. Yes, Howard's form been bad or even dreadful this season but he has served well for Everton since he joined from Man Utd. I believe a keeper can play beyond 38/39 like Martyn. Might be a dip in form or lost it in the top level I really don't know. I might be the minority here but I don't trust Robles for some reasons.

I don't think there's any real hate here. He's been good for us but this season he's been appalling and he needs binning off. I also think Joel's shown enough to be number 1 until at least the end of the season.

I agree HK. The entire team has been underperforming and this really exposes a goalkeeper. If the midfield and defence tightened up you would see the goalkeepers performances improve also.

That said, I would like to see the younger man(Robles) be given a fair chance to show that he can be our long term keeper.

If Robles does continue to play well and hold his place after Howard returns from injury ,I think you could see Howard consider moving on fairly quickly as we have seen that RM tends to play the no. 1 keeper in most games.
