Barry's explanation: BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | A | Aston Villa | 'Stale' fear spurred Barry move

On Villa:

"I am convinced with the plans the club has and the backing the manager will receive from the owners, that we will be a major force....I feel the club is in the best position it has been in during my time here. We have very good young players, a fantastic chairman and one of the best managers in the game.
I want to thank them [the Villa fans] for the incredible support I have received over the last 12 years."

£12M for a player 28 years of age?! I think you can safely say that's not a spending policy that'll be mimicked anytime soon at Goodison Park.

I dont rate him, tbh. But you have to say that represents a slightly more rational use of money than the millions they spent on Bellamy. At this rate City will get it right at about 2018. Just when oil hits 2p a barrel and the Sheiks are selling the Big Issue.

:lol::lol::lol:

H'e obviously gone for the money but makes up some story about Man City being on the up.
If they got Barry for 12 million how come we paid 15 for a player who is nowhere near the ability of Barry but several years younger.
I know who I would want

For the same reason Utd paid £30m for Rooney instead of getting a proven striker for less, potential

We needed proven not potential when we paid 15 million and its hardly a gamble with Rooney who had just been the star of the show for England in Portugal

This forum is for different views and I think Fellaini would split the views.
What I seen of him in all the home games, semi and final is a player who cant really control a ball, cant wait to get shut of the ball, cant hit a crossfield ball bar 1 against West ham and is too slow getting back.
He was bought as a holding midfield player but didnt quite fit in there.
He was then moved forward and when Saha/Jo played,Cahill was moved back from his best position, just behind the striker to accommodate Fellaini.
I felt this impacted on the performance of Cahill and his goals dried up.
If you recall last summer We would have been delighted to purchase someone like Barry but we had to wait til the last minute to get Fellaini who most of us had never heard of.
As I said at the start we will agree to disagree on him I think

Barry would get into our team, no problem. He's a good player

He'll be a good signing for City, they'll get a good few years out of him despite his age. He's always been a slow ****er, his game isn't about pace.

I think they'll do very well next season to be honest.

Have to say id be dissapointed if i was a Villa fan one of your best players signing for whats likely to be a direct rival.

Ive a sneaky feeling City may go for the Mout too.

Don't worry lads, Everton are signing Michael Owen and Joe Ledley.

Happy days!

Seriously though, it depresses me that Joe Ledley and Owen are Moyes' top targets.
