Interesting points being made about what message this sends to the Villa dressing room - that Barry goes from a club in Europe to a competing one (i.e. non CL) not in Europe for a more than 100% increase in wages. A transfer to Arsenal, for example, would have been seen differently. How would we feel about what kind of message letting Lescott go would send?

So with Ireland, Barry, Robinho, etc. Who's going to defend? This is quickly turning into Lawrie Sanchez's Fulham squad.
 
Exactly, they've got lots of money so they're looking at who can get them all the goals because they're the fancy players, everyone knows defence is their weakest area
 

It would be nice to see this team blow up and get relegated. Its hard enough with the top 4 let alone 5.

Unfortunately, money always trumps competence. If they keep spending and bring in say a Murhino they'll win the league in 4-5 years. Once they finish 4th players will be putting city on speed dial.

Lescott?

Barry was a good purchase. He is good enough to play in top four team and he is used to the Premier League. If City can sign a few players like this and a star name or two they will have a very good squad next season. It's then up to Hughes to turn them into a team. But this is a much better strategy than just signing some fancy foreigners.
 
He can play defensive mid but at Villa he's involved in the attack quite a bit. I do think its a good signing though 12M isn't a bad price for him at all. Think the back 4 is their prob though.

They will have enough talent to break into the top 4 by 2010. Hopefully they'll remain dysfunctional mercenaries that spend more time in clubs than on the training ground.
 

Kompany is also a CB. I think Barry will play more as a Central playmaker. I think hes got that in his game, he hasnt got the flair as many, but he can spray passes and he has excellent postional sense. He will be a good signing for them. Him and Robinho are their best buys, the rest are shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii t e.
 
£12M for a player 28 years of age?! I think you can safely say that's not a spending policy that'll be mimicked anytime soon at Goodison Park.

I dont rate him, tbh. But you have to say that represents a slightly more rational use of money than the millions they spent on Bellamy. At this rate City will get it right at about 2018. Just when oil hits 2p a barrel and the Sheiks are selling the Big Issue.
 
I dont rate Barry much to be fair, but I think thats because hes not flashy, Villa will feel his loss next season and I think he will make City a better team.

De Jong for £18m when they could have waited 6months and get him on a free, thats a stupid waste of money. But it could be argued he gave them a platform and stopped them getting relagated.

You can bet Robinhos agent is travelling all over the world trying to get him a new club tho.
 
Barry was Villa's heartbeat for years. Mr dependable. This could cause them to slip down the league. Him leaving and Larsen retiring is a double whammy. They still have electric pace though. "SIGH" If we had half the pace Villa have....:(:(
