Roberto Martinez discussion

Bobby is unfortunately on borrowed time, and so he should be as this is a results business first and foremost.

The worrying things for me are:

No Intensity in our play, no chasing down and harrying the opposition

No desire or fight

Absolutely no movement off the ball, and next to none when we have it

Playing favourite players even when out of form (Barry, Jags, Distin, Eto'o)

Having zero creativity and not changing anything

Poor Transfer signings

Even poorer contract extensions to existing players

I think you would all agree that martinez is lucky to have Bill as a chairman as he has been making these same mistakes for the last three months, he is not learning and that is scary.

The fact that our defence has not improved all season and has arguably got worse tells me that he does not know how to improve it or does not care and is only worried about the other end of the pitch. Unfortunately now our attacking threat has stopped dead we are in deep trouble, who would have thought that after last season :(

So i've just looked at our upcoming fixtures, where is our next point coming from? Anyone...???

The other worrying factor is teams will smell blood when facing us and this is happening already. Wouldn't surprise me to see Bobby gone by noon tomorrow. Whatever you say about the past 9 or so games, there is more to this than meets the eye and I think it will come to head now.

Everton FC captain Phil Jagielka says players are 'massively behind' Roberto Martinez
Jagielka insists Goodison dressing room is united despite worsening losing streak

Phil Jagielka insists Everton’s players are “massively behind” the methods of Roberto Martinez as he called on the Blues to stand up and be counted.

The skipper scotched suggestions it is time for a heated dressing-room inquiry led by the Catalan, and believes Martinez’s success in his debut season is fuelling heightened scrutiny of the manager.

A 2-0 New Year’s Day loss at Hull City became Everton’s fourth consecutive Premier League defeat, but Jagielka reckons the players must take responsibility for the ongoing slump.

Everton are now 13th in the table and only four points off the drop-zone, a startling predicament for a club that finished fifth last term.

Asked whether it had reached the point when Martinez was under pressure at Goodison, the defender said: “We’re massively behind him. I don’t think it’s come to that point.

“You see pundits, newspapers or social media but things haven’t gone from hero to zero in the space of nine games.

“At the end of the day we go out there to play and if we don’t pick up results, the manager will take a bit of the blame but the players have to go out there and perform. We’ve got a lot to answer for and the only way we can make it up to the fans is by winning games.”

Jagielka does not feel a clear-the-air session is required between the first-team squad, and is adamant they remain a united front.

“I don’t think that’s the style of the management team,” he said. “I think there are enough experienced lads in there, we’re not a bunch of kids. We’ve been in similar situations before.

“The way we performed last season was so far removed from this that people have started to look upon it a little bit harder.

“We know we’re not where we want or need to be and it’s only us who can sort it out.”

The England international said he empathised with the disillusioned supporters who made the trip to the KC stadium on a cold New Year’s day.

“It’s not a good place to be as an Evertonian when you’re not that confident in us keeping clean sheets and you wouldn’t be too confident in us scoring too many goals,” he said.

“It’s not a good combination at the moment but we’ve got some good players and some good characters in this squad and we need to come to the fore.

“We need to start keeping some clean sheets and giving the strikers a chance to get the match-winning moments, rather than chase something down trying to nick a draw. We’ve all got our parts to play.

“It’s not been the greatest new year’s day but there are still plenty of games to go.”

Everton were the only Premier League side to lose all their festive fixtures, but the 32-year-old refused to blame a congested schedule for the current malaise.

He said: “It’s not the first time in the Premier League we’ve played so many games in such a short period of time. We enjoyed having three or four games in quick succession in the past to build momentum.

“The way things have been going we’d have liked a little bit more time in between with injuries and things like that but that’s football these days.

“As much as we keep saying we’ve been unlucky at times, that’s now four losses on the spin and it’s plainly not good enough.”

Reflecting on another woeful defensive display, the captain added: “We lacked confidence going into it and then conceding twice, the second just before half time, sort of took the wind out of our sails.

“We tried to change things around second half, possibly improved our performance, but got nothing out of it. There’s a lot of things to sort out but hopefully we can get a result in the FA Cup next week and that can give us a bit of confidence and in turn we can start getting some points in the league.”

@Fat Stan you might be able to post with a smidge of credibility soon.....

The best @Fat Stan post for me isn't this one where he confesses that he's beginning to doubt out new manager a whole two months before that manager's first professional game.

But rather this one. Where he asks the question we'd all been wondering. Could losing 4-0 to liverpool at anfield be the best thing to have ever happened to everton football club?

Could it indeed, stan?

Shine on you crazy porky [Poor language removed].

"So i'll say one last time, thank you Liverpool FC for now ridding us of that one thing that was holding us back.. complacency! You have unleashed the Everton revenge seeking beast! And we will get it! We will finish ahead you and we will one day in the not so distant future win that one trophy you just wish you could your hands on. Give us a few years with this manager and this core group of players and we will win the premiership before you. Oh yes, revenge will be sweet! And you only have yourselves to blame!"

I'm ready to forgive, but is he?

Read between the lines on jags comments. " I don't think we need a clear the air meeting that's not the way our management work". Yeh so the players are allowed 0 input and will continue to look like they haven't got a clue what he wants.
In a nutshell there is nobody taking ownership.
I am sick of the players spouting garbage i wanna see it on the pitch now.

in this Barkley vid look at the movement of him and Rom and in particular Lukaku running towards goal and not used as a jarg target man.

also look at how the partnership of the two meant with Barkley running towards goal it opened up space for Lukaku and vice versa. Something that doesn't happen with Naismith behind him or with Ross out wide yet Martinez has persisted with this.

For me that's Moyes all over and its criminal for a manager of a top 6 quality side to have us even worried about relegation. Cant believe it

The worrying things for me are:

No Intensity in our play, no chasing down and harrying the opposition

No desire or fight

Those two are the biggest for me by a landslide. I can excuse some of the other things but if you step out on the pitch, you better give it your all.

They aren't.

Well that scorched the conspiracies put about by DaveK.
Words are easy.

Actions are the only things that count.

The senior players have deserted the battlefield. Never mind what that lump of lard Jagielka says. It'll be business as usual in the league against City and West Brom: down tools. They may pull their finger out on Tuesday in the cup game, calculating that they may as well be still in it when they unseat Martinez over the next two weeks or so.

Dave there is no satisfying you. You have an agenda and nothing will sway you a bit like RM and his football philosphy.
