usually hate blues who became reds, however, i cant bring myself to hate ol Abel !
Whats to hate!!! :)

wouldnt have much love for Dave Burrows

I'll give you something. My first ever game over from Dublin. Everton v Coventry. 11 years old, a very small 11 year old. I am standing by a big ass land rover in the car park hoping an Everton player would come. I see Abel walking towards me. Excitement and utter aw washes over me, I am stuttering as I am about to ask for a picture and he utters this sentence - "get the [Poor language removed] away from my car".

Oddly I never cried too much as a kid but it did make me question 'why Everton?' for first and only time in my life. It hurt me and confused me. The best thing that happened was him joining Liverpool. Talk about closure!

Grim story. What a bell.

The memories Everton have given me make up for it a million times over. I have been over many times since and have been lucky enough to see the 3 United victories. The 3 nill Andy Johnson and many other notable scalps. My games seen win ratio is astonishing for the hard games I have witnessed. So my faith has been rewarded I feel. Last and most important is the people of Liverpool, I'm not wanting to go on a scouse brown nosing crusade but they are a great bunch. Not far removed from my fellow dubliners in my opinion.

So to get this thread back on rail...

Xabier tough..

Arteta weirdly. I used to love him but cant stand the sight of his smarmy, cheating face anymore. It's like that moment when you see an ex bird who just looks fat. Pure disgust mixed in with venomous anger. I spit on you Mikel.

I don't hate Arteta. If I was in his position during a competitive match I'd absolutely HATE to lose to my old team. He definitely has a place in his heart for Everton. In fact I'm sure if you didn't have some sort of snide streak you'd find it difficult to make it as a competitive athlete. Leave the respect for the end of the match when you shake hands with the opposition.

The one thing I don't like are the rumours about him crying to Billy begging for a move but as far as I'm concerned they're probably just rumours.

I've read through a lot of this thread and I genuinely don't think I actually "hate" any ex players or managers.

I disliked some of them, particularly if they came out and talked bad about the club or belittled the club.

In recent times I would say Lescott and Moyes were the worst offenders, but I actually don't care enough about them to hate them.

Are you sure about that, Eggs?

I always heard that Willie McStay, then manager at Sligo and a mate of aMoyes from when they were both youngsters at Celtic, sent Seamus over to Wee Davey for a trial.
ttt
I have never of this Sean Doherty's arl fella being involved.

...reasonably certain, Khalekan. Indeed I'm sure I heard an account from Seamus quite recently which confirmed those events. I'll try and find it.

.....this was a quick find on the internet, confirms Mick's involvement but I'm almost certain he was over there watching Sean;

Also see this exert from Seamus' interview with Kevin Kilbane;

"It was actually Mick Doherty who saw me, he was Everton scout at the time and his son Sean was playing for Sligo, so maybe he was watching him and just happened to see me. Another bit of luck maybe."

Good point mate. Funnily enough I was watching a clip of the 3-0 derby win today and loved how ace he was in that. I will always remember those moments fondly because he was real school of science for me. But I still think his long attachment to us and the warmth the fans showed towards him should have been enough to cut out the card waving gestures in the first game at theirs after his transfer and especially the injury feigning malarkey in the cup game. As I said in my post I have no problem with honest commitment to his new team. Competitive does not mean cheat to gain an advantage in my book. Just felt he over stepped the mark and that tarnished my attitude towards him.
Moyes will continue to divide us I think. The one time I met him briefly he was warm, friendly and in great spirits in a situation pre match when I expected him to be prickly. I certainly did not want him to leave us but was frustrated that he seemed unwilling to believe in the team he had actually created and kept them on a leash a bit instead of letting them become a really attack minded team. But I think you are being generous to him about his comments about EFC and Martinez. I agree he was certainly under tremendous pressure at OT but still think he could have been capable of keeping to less patronising comments than he did. I am sure he does have a high professional opinion of RM. Who would not? He has achieved a lot. I don't hope he crashes and burns completely but his send off from us was second to none and I expected better from him.

Fair points about both Mikel and Moyes there mate. I feel exactly the way you do about the same points you raise.

With respect the point you raise about Mikel I hate cheats full stop. Regardless of whether they play for Everton, have played for Everton, or not at all. Used to hate Limpar for falling over too easy.

Totally agree with you about Moyes though. What made me feel bitter about that was he got a hero's send off and then the stories started to emerge. Speaking with people who work at the club it then turns out anecdotally he was unpopular with many club employees and I haven't heard one say they were sad to see him leave. So relating that back to the send off I buried my anger quickly because I realised that as a fan I only had a fraction of the full picture. So I suggest like many fans including me that Moyes began to believe in the PR cult of 'the Moyesiah' that was created around him by those running the club more than the reality deserved? Not a reason to hate him for believing in his hype?

Thanks for that...I had never heard that account :)

Andy Gray was my first hero, can't hate the man and he still speaks proudly of his time at us.

Yes.

I think Andy has suffered through his association with Richard Keys.....the sleazeball's sleazeball.

I went through a period when I practically hated Andy, such was my detestation of Keys during the time they had the programme on talkSPORT.

But Andy's saving grace was how fondly he spoke of Everton and the frequency with which he had boys like Peter Reid, Kevin Ratcliffe, Howard Kendall or big Nev on for a reminisce about his time with us.

I couldn't hate him for long :)

And his reaction to Jags's goal when co-commentating on BT is priceless ;)

Sounds like Liverpool was the right club for him.

Dai Davies
my number one hate.
Met him and the team coming back from Chelsea on the train . when i was about 15, one horrible arrogant man, One of are directors Waterworth i think it was and Kenyon wernt very pleased with his attidude towards me after being asked to put his name on my program, which jim pearson was taking it around, not me, tried to make a big one of himself and failed, made a big scene of asking "what do you say if you want me to sign it", but it was his manner more than anything, like i was beneath him
I just said," i didnt ask you to put your name on anything and i dont want it anyway" Kenyon went to make him do it , but i just took it off the table and walked away, felt like crap, should have been a dream meeting all your heros but ruined by one of the worst players ever to pull on are shirt.
The director tried to make up for it by taking to meet the manager, while he had a word.
If it had been ten years later god knows how i would have acted, but i cant stand the sight of him.
