I get what you mean. Mine was perfect. From taking the train to Kirkdale and walking to the County Rd. for brekkie and pints at the Black Horse where I met up with some lads from here. Walked to Goodison...when I turned the corner and saw her in all her tattered glory...I almost shed a tear. More pints at the Winslow...mistaking some big bloke for Goat (it wasn't but he was happy to see me anyway)...squeezing through the turnstiles made from much smaller people from long ago...the first glimpse of the green pitch...z cars...swatting United last year...bevvies after the game at Magic Wok and then the Taxi club, including meeting some 70+ year old blues there...I've been an Evertonian for a long time...but after that I felt I well and truly belonged to the family.

Last night was quite an experience. Let me give you some context. Btw, this is going to go on for a while, so move on if you don't have the time or inclination.

I am from the land of SEC football and folks who are considered knowledgable if they are aware that Chelsea dresses in blue while ManU is kitted out in red. My first life's experience of seeing a match surrounded by evertonians was last night. It was beyond wonderful.

First, from the stewards to the bizzies, to the regular guy in the pub, everyone was just so NICE. Spent the trip on the soccer bus on the way over talking with other arl arses about things Everton and how I came to be where I was and why. Some were amazed to see this guy from Florida who knew who Dixie was, others not so much.

Spent several minutes by Dixie's statue with some stewards helping get the tickets sorted with which box office to go to for what, and actually got sorted out perfectly in an Old School manner in minutes. Walked thru Walton checking out the yout swilling lager in the McDs parking lot, and the seemingly dozens of pubs packed out to the curb (whoops, kerb) with those prepping for the game. A certain WUM gave me a reason to trek to the Thomas for a brew, where I got to see young men doing shots in front of some orange girls while conversing with very dialed in youngsters sporting blue jerseys and football knowledge. It was very comfortable, actually.

Then, back to Goodison, in the turnstile, up the stairs, up the escalator to the aerie of the top balcony, where we were packed in elbow to elbow, toes to bums with folks peering over the edge to our favorite perfect pitch. Hearing Z cars, seeing the intro, hearing the snap of the sound of the Gwladys Street hitting my ears like a well placed left cross, and watching our heroes bury a pretty good Wolfsburg side, we'll... What do you think. How good was it? It was the pure sex, that's what it was. Pointed out Bobby's brown brogues to my love, and heard her say "you know, this is so much better than what we used to get at the Jags games".

Back to the bus/train and back to central city. Crashed in a heap after our unique 36 hours since walking out our door in JAX.

As Joe Jackson once sang back in the day, "it's a big world, with so much to do". Finally, a lone Evertonian was no longer alone.

I still do this, 40 years after the first time.

Every. Single. Time.

haha unbelievable, reading some words on a laptop screen written by two arl arses i don't know, making the hairs on my neck stand up - this thread is everton all over.

awestruck my first time at goodison, especially z-cars - back in the day when i'd only seen everton on MOTD, so had no idea about the tune - best day of my life so far, that may never change.

AND WE LOVE YOU, EVERTON!

Love it, well done, come back as soon as you can, you're always welcome

And now for the theory; 1 new yank in Goodison = win
then all we need is one per game for the next 10 yrs and that's everything won, world wide acclaim, massive fan base, mega bucks in sponsorship etc.
say 65 games per season max
one per state, 2 in the more populous ones
650 new yanks out of, how many is it now 350-400Mill... not a lot to ask for total world domination.

For my first game I traveled on the bus from Speke
For my latest ( won't say last but you never know ) I traveled on an airbus from Brisbane
how times change

I think the point I want to make to you Scousers is that we do not CHOOSE from afar. We begin watching the jogo bonito, and in the process it is revealed to us that we are Evertonian. For me, it happened one night when we played Arsenal off the pitch and proceeded to lose 4 - 1. Counter attacking b*****s... Eduardo did his karma no good that night, as we went on to see. Goodison reached out to me that night and it was the closest thing I've known to the first time I saw my wife.

This is quite true for me as well. Mrs Nigh started watching matches with me because I was watching them, but when we walked into Goodison it was confirmed--she knew she belonged.

A political blog I follow has a member who periodically posted about the condition of his beloved Everton FC and piqued my interest. I had heard of the other lot, but was frankly unaware of the true Merseyside club. The rest just sort of fell into place. My thanks go to Paul Mirengoff, a great American Evertonian.

My first game was at Anfield Liverpool beat Huddersfield 4-0 .My next game was at Goodison Everton lost 2-0 to
Arsenal.Next game at Anfield Liverpool beat Blackpool 2-0 .Next game at Goodison Everton lost 1-0 to stoke.

The scores made no difference to me ,even at 7 years of age in 1948 I could smell class and may be from looking at
the kop from the boys pen I didn't like the look of the biggest open aired toilet in the world and this among other
things made me a bluenose . whatever it was I've never ever ever regretted it.

On a day when we got our arses spanked ( again ) by Palace some of GOT met @mezzrow and his wife.

Lovely people, and I wish we could have delivered another win for you today mate, but you've witnessed the highs and lows of supporting Everton in the flesh over the last few days, which is probably how it should be.

Come back again soon.
Thanks so much, woolly one. We both were made up to see you and the others. (Mrs - they're so nice!) All top lads indeed. Really enjoyed talking footy both here and abroad, and talking some classic rasslin with our mate I recognized as soon as he walked the door. Never knew I would be discussing the Funk brothers and the Brisco boys from back in the day in Walton. And of course, the one and only American Dream. You never know. I'll soon have something special up for him on these pages.

If you can't handle a day like today, you need to find some other club. Into every life some rain must fall. That streak I was bloviating over is well and truly dead now. Todays result is the only thing I would change for this trip. We'll treasure these few days in Merseyside. At least our Blues didn't lose by 30 like my Jaguars did today. Sunday, Bloody Sunday.

The thing that makes this place so special is the people.

Heard the thing read out at half time for a couple from Jacksonville over for the two games this week.

Wonder who that was about.

Good story on that. Leaving the pub for the game and ran into two great fellows from north Wales in the Aldi parking lot. Struck up a conversation when they overheard our accents (we don't have accents, btw) lol and one asked if we had contacted the club about our visit. I replied that it had never crossed my mind - then he said do you have some paper and pen. Wrote down our names and particulars of the visit, and he took it and said let me see what I can do. Next thing you know, we heard the announcement at halftime. This would never happen at home, and is one more way that Everton shows they truly are the people's club. Once Everton has touched you...
