Why doesn't everyone wait for until next year before fuming at him being over the hill on big wages or praising him as still dead boss?

And just see how he goes.

If we did that, we'd never actually talk about anything on the Everton forum ^^

True though, obviously none of us have a clue until he's done with his time at Everton how he'll pan out, but talking about the ifs and buts is fine I reckon. It's like talking tactics, squad depth etc.

Don't understand anyone complaining really. The guy has consistently scored goals at the highest level, including last year at Chelsea. He has a somewhat chequered history, but seems to have a great work-ethic and always looks very fit to me.

To put his age in context, he is 33 but he's less than 6 months older than Ibrahimovic, a player who scored 41 goals for PSG last season. I don't doubt that Eto'o would have scored a fair few more than he did if he'd started regularly.

On top of the goals, what he offers off the pitch is equally exciting. What a great role model for players on the way up like Barkley and Lukaku, I'm excited to think what it might mean for their aspirations as players. The guy has won leagues in Italy and Spain and has three Champions League medals.

To me, it's an absolute no-brainer.

There's a difference between complaining and having a balanced view of the whole situation. Most are going completely overboard because of who he used to be. He isn't that player anymore.

I just have reservations, I still think it's a decent signing but I'm not blown out of the water and creaming my knickers.

Could we get Ibrahimovic?

My point was never that Hope was better than Eto'o

My point was that rather than bringing in an older player for big money as a short term fix, maybe it would be better to cultivate our younger players with a long term view

That being said, it sounds like we've got Eto'o at a very reasonable wage considering his "name value", so it's not as urgent a reason to be wary of the deal as I first thought

I'd be all for playing the youngsters if they were good. But all the evidence so far points to Hope being absolutely poo

It is a good signing that's all. No one knows how he'll do yet.

He will sell some shirts though, that is if bloody kitbag can be bothered to print any.

We need a song for him.

I've completely come round on this. Was fully against it now I'm fully for it.

Great squad addition!
