Cash or no cash...players like Eto'o wouldn't have entertained the idea of playing for Sgt Major Moyes and his square bashing routine. He had a reputation of screwing up forwards with donkey work and it would have been noted. He couldn't even get class to join him at United!

Indeed

Martinez has the luxury of a bigger budget to work with

That being said, can you picture Moyes allowing Barkley, Stones and McCarthy to play as much as they have? Being below 25 was not a good place to be in a Moyes squad towards the end of his run

However, if Martinez and Kenwright have truly managed to sign a man like Eto'o for 40K a week, that's a very shrewd bit of negociating and they deserve credit for doing so
40K a week? I wouldn't think so. That would be an insult to the great man

I could see a 4-3-3 until Barkley returns....

Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
McCarthy Besic Barry
Eto'o Lukaku Mirallas

Could happen, can't see it though, think Besic is going to take the Deulofeu development path this year. Depends how long Pienaar is out for though.

Personally think it'll be:

You could argue that Martinez is doing both (with the young lids that are ready, Barkley and Stones)

Yes, but they aren't strikers, which was my point

When was the last time a striker came out of the youth set up or was signed very young and did as well as Barkley, Coleman, Stones etc?

Imagine if we could be self sufficent in that position as we are in others when it comes to young players?

Lukaku is still young of course, but we had to pay a lot to get him

I'm talking about a young striker that we've either bought cheap or developed from scratch

Eto'o will NOT play out wide.

We have Eto'o, Lukaku, Naismith as our primary goal-attacking options, I can see Eto'o playing behind Lukaku. We got screwed over when Pienaar went off on Saturday, mainly because we didn't have a solid option to bring on and was forced to bring on Osman.

But at this point in time I can see the team being

Code:
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
       McCarthy Barry
Naismith Eto'o Mirallas
          Lukaku

However, the could easy be changed to

Code:
Coleman Jags Distin Baines
      McCarthy Barry
Mirallas Naismith Lukaku
           Eto'o

It's good to have a tactic advantage. It's good that everyone know's RM is up for playing Rom out wide and not as a target man, so it keeps the opponents on their toes.

We might even see a proper 3-5-2 with the options we've got

Code:
          Stones Jags Distin
Coleman McCarthy Naismith Barry Baines
              Eto'o Luauku

Rooney?

It could go easily either way. He is 33 after all and won loads at clubs playing at a much higher level than ours, so his motivation may not be as sharp, same with his waning skills. He wasn't all that for Chelsea last season for example.

But this is 2014 and everything is the best ever ever ever so pipe down me being a grey cloud. We are signing Samuel Eto'o, one of the best forwards of the past decade. In Royal Blue. For your perusal at Goodison.

Signing boss players has a weird effect on lids and makes them type things like an utter mong so I'm going going to fall into that trap. If he turns out sound then Everton will be totes #amazeballs though yo.

I fear this has car crash written all over it. It looks like a pay day to me and I dont really like his attitude. I'd have been way more comfortable with a Wellbeck deal.

That said...he could be our Cantona!!

Aye, being a blue I'm fully expecting the former like. Difficult to grumble with us potentially signing Samuel Eto'o like but that's just how we roll.

He probably will stick with his preferred formation, yeah.
