Lot of positives in first half, especially Pienaar and Baines looking back to their best with Naismith & McGeady doing well.

We ran out of energy in the second half and let them back into it with our subs too late.

Ah well, could have been worse but we'll have to get our fitness levels back up and sort out the shakiness at the back.

A rare sensible post in this thread mate, far too much fuming and a fair few rs lurkers on the WUM as well

Only ourselves to blame as we sat-back too much. Martinez for once poor with his subs - should have been made far earlier. When we were arsed though we bossed it, just too sloppy - Distin especially.

We'll be fired up next week. Goodison needs to be on top form though - can see Arsenal starting the season like a house on fire

yeah, we shouldn't be playing stones out of position but it was uncontrollable due to coleman lacking fitness.. as bobby will say, there were lots of positives and things will only get better once our perfect starting 11 are in the team

bit harsh, would go more like:

Howard - 5
Stones - 4
Jags - 3
Distin - 3
Baines - 7
Barry - 4
McCarthy - 4
McGeedy - 7 (saved by goal)
Naismith - 6.5 (saved by goal)
Pienaar - 7
Lukaku - 4.5

Martinez - -0 Just absolutely awful

Howard 5
Stones 2
Jags 5
Distin 4
Baines 6
Barry 6
McCarthy 5
Pienaar 7
Naismith 7
McGeady 4
Lukaku 4

Martinez 1 poor tactics and substitutions

Howard was better than a five, and Distin was better than a three. Stones demonstrated a lack of positional awareness and Jags was mostly anonymous. McGeady had the classic game of two halves, ace in the first and invisible in the second. Lukaku was better than the 4.5 you've given him.

Surprised we didn't see Besic or Atsu, the second half was crying out for them.

We had a shocking second half, but some of you need to take a good hard look at what you're saying here. Fume of disproportionate levels to the result. One game in, dropped two points, a tricky run ahead but we'll get there and play some sexy togger like we did in patches today. It is by no means the end of the world nor the season.
