Martinez wanted 6/7 new signings - and why - squad and age

I would wager we will see transfers in the region of 6-10 mil on players.

Given the massive player sales we have made recently, and the fact that our revenue has increased by over 100 million pounds over the next three seasons, I honestly thought we may finally start being ambitious once again. But the signs so far are that we are continuing to operate at the same level as also-rans. It's bloody torture at times, and yet we're supposed to be ecstatic about it.

I saw this 6/7 players and thought we want someone with a missing leg possibly from a shark attack.

Then i thought, maybe Omni Consumer Products are going to sponsor us and give this shark attack victim a robotic leg. He will be tremendous up front for us.

Martinez has been absolutely clear on this issue. Here's Greg O'Keefe confirming the target in May :

Vince Taylor: Is the squad equipped to play in the league and in Europe next term? It’s a lot of football for such a small squad.
Greg: Not currently - but the manager knows that and that's why he wants six new faces at least.

And the six faces will have to be players who can make a genuine contribution next season - we're not talking about the likes of Sam Byrne. I assume that it would include Gareth Barry and Lacina Traore, if we can get them to re-sign, so that leaves another 4 significant additions between now and the end of August.

Over to you, Roberto.

Football Manager style post coming

I think 2 teams with 3/4 versatile squad players and we'll be absolutely fine.

I'd sign...

Lukaku
Traore on loan
Winger on loan
Barry
Rodwell on loan
Banega if cheap

Promote...

Browning
Duffy
Ledson (maybe bring off the bench a few times, I maintain he's not ready)
Lundstram
Garbutt

Leaving us with...

GK: Howard, Robles

RB: Coleman, Hibbert, Stones, Browning

CH: Jagielka, Stones, Distin, Alcaraz, Duffy, Browning,

LB: Baines, Oviedo, Garbutt

Wingers: Mirallas, McGeady, Pienaar, Loan winger, Oviedo, Naismith

CM: McCarthy, Gibson, Barry, Rodwell, Banega, Osman, Lundstram, Ledson, Barkley

N10: Barkley, Naismith, Osman, Banega, Mirallas

CF: Lukaku, Traore, Kone, Naismith, Mirallas

Team 1:

Howard
Coleman Jagielka Stones Baines
McCarthy Barry
Mirallas Barkley Pienaar
Lukaku

Team 2:

Joel
Hibbert Alcaraz Distin Oviedo
Banega Gibson
Loan winger Naismith Pienaar
Traore

Spares:

Kone, Rodwell, Duffy, Browning, Osman, Lundstram, Garbutt, Ledson
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That squad is plenty big enough, with only spending maximum 27 mil in terms of fees.

Shola, Titus, Samaras and Cattermole.

Sorry, I've probably drunk too much and jumped the gun but it does seem like everyone else is making signings and we aren't doing much. It's annoying because you can see the top 4 and united strengthening, so it figures that we need to strengthen too.

They can afford to take the hit on wages, they can afford to pay the buy now price, we sadly cant take a wages hit nor can we can pay the buy now price.

40 days left till we kick a ball in anger, plenty of time yet.

As much as i do keep wearing out rehfresbuttons in the transferthread i must admit i feel quite happy about not splashing out cash at random. The skyteams must feel some kind of obligation to the media ,combined with the purses from the owners.
So far i am very happy with the way Martinez acts, seems endlessly more well thought of than the rest. Why dish out 20-30-40mill when you can get the same for 10? He seems to be quite the master at getting the best out of people as long as they avoid injuries, which is of course not his fault.

Remarkably calm for you, that. It's unnerving.
