If no-one else is going to say it

This is what I'm struggling with. Who really cares? I've had PMs off other posters I've vaulted from yesterday laughing about it.

I tend to find a certain type of poster reacts worse to being proven wrong.

I'm constantly wrong on here hahaha! I wanted Dale Jennings to sign badly as I thought he'd be the English Messi, thought McCarthy was a middle of the road player and thought Benteke was the next Heskey, off the top of my head.

Going back and liking my posts the other day got the same reaction from me - especially my "yay Martinez..." post when he was appointed! In fact, my exact response was to say "oh bloody hell..." out loud.

That's a bit different from what's happened here with Zatara though, which is obviously the subject at hand as I'm talking about the bumping of two threads to beat a guy with in an unrelated third one. That's all I'm discussing - a gentle teasing about silly posts in the past is different from an all out bumping old threads all over the place war on someone.

Good mate, so in future can you put the prefix "in my opinion" before you type such stuff so it looks less aggressive towards other posters and not that you are a celebrated FourFourTwo magazine consultant.

Bumping Zatara wouldn't be possible if he didn't continually post mad stuff. Were all prone to posting utter crap but its an occasional thing. If the same poor opinion keeps on being repeated then people tend to tire of it and use previous examples from that poster as a retort. I can see why people do it, to make them think twice and post considered opinion as that's usually a good foundation of sound debate in threads on here.

Just felt it was unnecessary. Zatara made this thread:

http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/martinez-transfers.66767/

... and there was ample opportunity to tell him he was wrong about that specific subject in that thread, instead of vaulting two others from ages ago as well.

Why do people keep thinking I'm upset? It's a discussion! This is every bit as normal to me as talking about Leighton Baines or a movie in the Ale House!

You clearly seem to be though, lid.

The early season 'doubts' that the knee-jerkers had, soon disappeared after Barry threw that block in against Chelski (You know, the same Barry, that all the interweb experts claimed was never all that, and now he was even worse because he was past it...) and we won one nil thanks to Naismith....

You're talking about opinions and being even handed, yet you can't help defend people (maybe yourself included??) that were jumping all over OUR Roberto after his third game in charge. Just saying like....

The pre-cursor "in my opinion" applies to pretty much absolutely everything everyone says on here, it doesn't need to be said. By definition, everything we all type is an opinion. What you've just typed is an opinion! My game reviews in the Ale House for example - all opinions, all typed with conviction (this is one of the best games ever etc.) but at the end of the day anyone can disagree with me. But ultimately I have to believe what I type when I type it, so I'm going to sound definitive in what I say as I believe it to be true, otherwise I'm lying.

I'd agree with you if it was the same poor opinion he was offering - for example, someone starting threads constantly saying Moyes Out or Scot Gemmill is an alien or something - but it isn't the same opinion; it's an opinion about something else entirely that may be equally as bad in content but not equal in subject.

So my view is, let him know how bad his opinion is in your view in the thread itself. Like you, I can see the temptation, it's an easy shot, but I don't think it's the best way to go about things. Especially when an opinion like what he typed today is so easily shot to pieces by a simple counter argument.

When Barry signed I said he'd prove to be our most important signing this season.

But then I was wrong in Martinez being the safe option and obviously he has proven to be a stunning appointment. Naismith is another, thought he was useless.

I'm not defending the content of the opinions, I'm just defending the right to say them without worrying about being wrong about it down the line and being punished for it when you type something else. Being wrong once doesn't mean you should use it as a stick to beat them with when they something again about something completely different.

But if that same poor opinion is displayed time and time again then same in real life you'd pull the person up on it as it would become a little tiresome.

Agree. Think a forum works a bit differently though. After all, if you look at what's happened in that thread he's posted today, it's made people talk about how good the signings were, so if you read through it you see a lot of sensible discussion. In real life, you'd just tell your mate to shut up FFS and that'd be the end of it!

Shut up Tubey, FFS!

No, you're right mate. Being wrong about something is not a stick to beat somebody with, but when it's a self-appointed expert, then well, surely they're asking for it?

I've seen the same people who were pissed off with Moyes, slagging Martinez off early in to his reign? Christ knows what they wanted like??? Maybe they just wanted to be self appointed experts?

I think you should stop worrying about mildly-pisstaking internet chatter.

Post what you like as long as you respect the community, and if you piss some lids off then more fool them.

But in reality there's only a small handful who takes things too seriously round here, the rest of us just enjoy the luls and bantz.
