can I also just say that if we had a CF like Bony we'd have won the game. Lukaku just doesn't cut it for me. He didn't have one attempt on goal in 90 minutes, never got anywhere near any crosses (in fact was more often outside the box when crosses were coming in), and rarely discomforted their defenders.

Not just Lukaku either, for instance 95% of the time EVERYBODY knows what Del is going to do...slide it hard and low across the face of the goal, yet all of them choose not to take a chance on the ball getting there and don't get anywhere near it's anticipated path.

I personally think Deulo was a threat and needed to be worked in to the game more not taken off, maybe in taking him and MCgeady of he wanted us to be more composed and build it up. He was right to say after the game that we wanted it to much and didnt play like ourselves though.

Playing 3 wingers in a match (including Mirallas) ain't working. Yes they had pace but didn't seem to know what to do for each other. Then we rested our anchor and Barkley was having a really bad game and that proved he isn't really a CM.

He played the wrong team and should have changed it at half time as it was obviously not right , oh well disappointing night but overall a s good a season as we,ve seen in the Prem so well done Bobby and the Boys.

Having pace and not knowing what to do for each other is exactly why we pretty much always have used Pienaar or Osman in our lineups, yet people still complain. They may not play fantastically but they are the only ones in the squad who will attempt to pull the strings, alternating between longer and shorter passes to move the play around. Hopefully we will have a player closer to Mata than Osman in the team/squad next season!

Also I don´t think Barkley being wasteful with the ball in CM is much different than him being the same further up the field. At 20 years old and with such natural talent nothing has been proven yet. Bobby will be working with him a lot, I´m sure of it.

AWAY DEFEATS THIS SEASON: Liverpool, City, Spurs and Chelsea – nothing wrong with those. No shame.

HOME DEFEATS THIS SEASON: Sunderland and Palace – WHAT ON EARTH?!?!!?!?!?!?

HELP ME - I'm really struggling today.

This was the only game we had left maybe to rest a couple of bodies. im sure that sunderland would have taken its toll on them. it didnt go to plan. TBH went to bed fuming last night but this morning have calmed. it was always going to be close and the arse are going to drop points. i just hope they take this on the chin learn from it and kick on. its all about the reaction now not just for sunday but for the rest of the season if we want to be taken serouisly.

Crystal Palace played really well. They swamped the ball and always got players going forward on the break. I do think they were a bit fortunate to score 3 times but sometimes there just games where goals just happen. I thought we were very disorganized. No one seemed to be anticipating crosses despite Baines and Deulofeu whipping them in. Also 13 corners and not a single goal? That's really poor.

Can't moan about palace's tactics, that was us 9 years ago and it gots is champs league!!

Martinez made mistakes last night but its still been a fantastic season and the future looks bright with Martinez in charge.
They deserved their win to be fair but arsenal won,t win all their games so its still a possibility 4th spot

Having gone to sleep very angry at the result and woken up this morning to re-watch the game, I have to agree with the above four posts.

Palace played a very specific gameplan, some of which was worthy of praise: they knew we were going to throw the kitchen sink at them - we all knew it - so they sat back in numbers and swamped us whenever we got near their box and they were first to virtually every cross we put in. That takes a lot of discipline and communication. Furthermore when they took the ball off us they did well to get numbers forward swiftly, as they often had nine or more behind the ball. They rarely just hoofed it away, they were specifically playing to counter-attack.

The Dann goal was garbage, but the two in open play were both well-taken, with the first being a well-crafted effort. If one of ours skinned a fullback the way Baines got bummed for the first goal, we'd all be drooling. I also thought their keeper was on very good form.

I understand why RM wanted to rest some players ahead of the final straight, and I don't think he was wrong to do so. Unfortunately, injuries to our small squad have been our undoing once again - had Oviedo, Gibson or Pienaar been fit then they might have seen some action. If Kone or Traore actually existed, they too might have played a part.

The only criticism I have of Martinez is that I think that starting all three wingers made us a little too one-dimensional. We actually needed McGeady and Deulofeu in the last 20 minutes, running against tired defenders to draw fouls - instead we had Ossie trying to thread passes through the aforementioned nine+ at the back. The deployment of Barkley in CM is something I want to see more of because he NEEDS to be able to play in more than one position, and I feel that neither Gibson nor Barry should be Everton players in September.

I agree with everything apart from barry being here in September.
He has been our best player this season and he will help bring barkley on next year.
I also like Gibson not as a automatic choice but a good squad player who we will need if we get into europe

My view on last night.

We lost, ok it was a crushing loss in our season but only one loss none the less. What bothered me and continues to do is any sort of critisism that MArtinez and the players are getting. Not in a normal fashion but in a really negative way. We have just won 7 games on the bounce! We were 11 points behind arsenal at the start of that run and out of the champions league places. Now we are 1 off after even being there for a few days. My point is if we had picked up a couple more points this season, as in 2 more over 30 odd games, we would still be thinking 4th is ours. So stop moaning and look forward to sunday eh?

Plus people saying Stones was at fault somewhat for the goals last night. You know what, so? He is what, 19 years of age? Do you even think he would be in the squad under Moyes let alone be replacing our captain? He will make mistakes and have said since the start of the season, i prefer to see a young player make mistakes and learn from them rather than rot away at brentford or in the reserves for years like we had for 11 years. Guaranteed Stones will be looking to improve any mistakes he made last night and he will be better for it.

We are still only 1 off 4th. Personally i have never thought we could finish there and see the europa being the better option for next season than champs league but wouldn't complain about being in it. My point is, we are a point off 4th, we have cut 10 points down on arsenal in 7 games. We have the drive to keep going at teams whilst all the pressure is back on Arsenal now. 4 winnable games left, so lets go and win them eh?

The players may be feeling pressure as 4th may be back on. The trick about playing under pressure is to play like it means nothing, when it means everything.

Barry is there or thereabouts as our player of the year, yes. But he's getting too old, losing what little pace he had and collects yellows at an alarming rate because of it. I think the chance of him playing this many games this well for another season is not high enough to warrant the wages he's likely to ask for.

Gibson.... great player when he's fit. But he's never fit, so cheerio. Same for Kone, who remains for me the worst signing in the thirty-one years since I started watching Everton.

You're right that we need a bigger squad for Europe next year. However, unless Barry is prepared to take a sizeable cut in wages I don't want him to come to us, because he is at the stage were his decline is inevitable and imminent. And Gibson has been a waste of a wage for nearly a year now - we've paid him well over a million pounds to get back to fitness, and he's not done it. If he's employed as a footballer, he should periodically play a bit of football.
