Wenger: Everton Can Win The League

I'm not that surprised at what he's said. Since the loss of our strikers, we've been playing a really solid game. I honestly think that we're good enough to occupy a top four spot...really, I'm not winding you up.

Look at it this way. Yeah, we might lose to Arsenal and Utd. But what if we draw them both? Our run of fixtures after that are very winnable, Bolton, Newcastle, West Brom, Blackburn. If we can squeak through the next two Prem fixtures and carry on picking up points against that list, we'll be on the sort of run that, if Man Utd were to have such a sequence would be described as a title charge. We can deffo draw at OT this Saturday. And we're capable of beating Arsenal tonight - the players need to believe that it can be done.

And we're playing better than Villa right now.

Reasons to be cheerful: Defence is awesome. Midfield is working really hard. Maybe not quite as incisive as we would like but well able to frustrate even Utd. Granted, attacking options are very limited, but when we score, you fancy us to defend a lead. And attacking options will return

We're on the brink of something special.

Memo to self: Last time you said that, we lost...

In my paper Wenger in his comment made no reference to Everton winning the Prem Title.

It was and I quote " Wenger believes Everton can secure a place in the Champions League and that his side can win the PremTitle. It, the table is much tighter than everyone thinks. I would not dismiss Everton, they will be as competitive as Aston Villa and we are a close rival to Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United at the top."

No indication in that where he fancies Everton to win the Prem but perhaps get fourth for a CL place.

I think some newspapers are misreporting which is nothing new.

If Moyes had a £30million kitty to bag 3-4 quality players in the summer (or any summer) we'd be in contention the way the league is at the moment - If not, a strong Champions League challange at least.

We've got a better side than Villa I feel and they havent spent megabucks like the Barcodes, Shiteh, and Spurs have but are 3 points or so from the top spot. We've produced performances against the big teams with patch up players and suspensions (maybe a bit of luck with the Chelsea game sending off).

Most teams in the league would've buckled if they had similar non-starter of a summer transfer window and injuries we have.

But we all know that wont be the case or change for the forseeable future. Getting all deep and thoughtful...history could look back on the Moyes-era of Everton and say "it could've been more with a little help"

Easy media work this.

Big up the team you are about to play, admit that they could beat you, play down your own teams chances, then when you lose you can say"I told you so".

Pure damage limitation by the Arse.

I'm not having Wenger take our underdog card away from us, it's doing us good and we're keeping it. They have got better players than us and more strength in depth. Just don't tell them that we are clearly the better team though.

Come on you blues.(y)

Would rather not to be honest, look at man city now there turning in to the laughing stock of the premier league

And you guys thought Eriksson was crap...

Back to Wenger, sometimes he can be as charming as they get.

Don't really agree with him. But with some smart investment, 2 or 3 good players we could be really, really close to it.

Villa must be the surprise horse. Always thought O'Neill would make them strong, never imagined he would be out there with the big boys in such a short time and with that sort of squad. Hats off to the man.

For the record, I actually thought he was a decent manager.

Correct.

100% correct there.

ffs correct.

Too true but give credit, we have or are doing well with extremely limited resources and surely one can see now where Moyes is heading with his team building. He knows we have limited finances and is working within that. Arguably he has also made some of the best signings in the prem, need I name them. I think not.

It won't continue forever, you know that.

This season at best for me, before we start dropping down.

We have been dreadfuly unfortunate with injuries though. However I wonder if the Yak had not been injured would we have still been doing as well?

In the scheme of things it may not last only time will tell and if it could get better.
